Top and Bottom Stairs 2-Way Switches not working correctly

Not only EMI, but also there is a distinct likelihood of having live and neutral taken from different circuits.

Top and Bottom Stairs 2-Way Switches not working correctly

I could explain why twin&earth is not recommended as the wire between the 2-way switches, since I wrote it, but seriously do you not know?

Top and Bottom Stairs 2-Way Switches not working correctly

Assuming all the black cores are switched lives, isn't the quick fix just to swap the wires in the top switch? Do you have a picture of the ceiling rose wiring? To avoid future confusion, I'm editing to state that this is just wrong. Don't try it, won't work, can't work.

Top and Bottom Stairs 2-Way Switches not working correctly

You can wire 2-way switches with only 2 cores and an earth, provided that you have a separate neutral wire available to the lamp. This is very common in older setups, although no longer recommended. See the first 2-way diagram at the link. The second 2-way diagram shows the recommended 3-core +...

    Under counter lighting

You can power most LED strips and lamps with a wallwart or other DC power supply of the appropriate voltage and power. Raw LEDs and a very few LED lamps require a special current-controlled power supply referred to in this context as a driver. Generic DC power supplies such as your typical...

    Under counter lighting

Under-cabinet lighting. The exact type of lighting doesn't really affect the switch and wiring from it. The same switch can turn on and off fluorescent lights, LED pucks, LED strips, whatever you want. The only exceptions might be if you want something like remote control dimming and switching...

    CO alarm regs landlords.

Also remember that the alarm won't last as long as the battery. Most people hang them on the wall and think they're good for life, but they only last a few years (five, maybe a couple more?)

    CO alarm regs landlords.

Yup, read it again. 1. Smoke alarm on each floor with living accomodation. 2. CO alarm in each room with a solid fuel combustion appliance. Gas isn't a solid fuel, no requirement for carbon monoxide detector at all.

Replace led transformer with LED driver

Most of them, anyway. However, LED G4 capsules are often DC-only. There just isn't much space in there for rectification as well as current control and smoothing. And since many of them are fitted in mobile locations where they run off a battery supply, this is OK. So you can either look for an...

    Removing downlights from ceiling?

Direct replacement of MR16 lamps with LED equivalents can cause problems depending on your transformers. It is difficult to tell if you'll have trouble without actually trying a replacement, but in general "electronic transformers" fitted from about 2000 - 2010 (?) is likely to give trouble...

    Removing downlights from ceiling?

I don't know about fun, but I'm definitely a happier person since I did this :)

What are the best dimmable LED swiches, units and bulbs?

You would want 1,000-2,000 lumens ambient lighting plus dedicated task lighting for the work areas. If you don't have the task lighting, first question would be why not, but then you'd need to double the ambient lighting and possibly more. No way to say how many bulbs that is, possibly only one...

Leaving house empty - combi on water off?

Some home insurance has clauses about thermostat settings related to frozen pipe coverage. Make sure for yourself that the pipes aren't going to freeze (does this still happen in the 21st century?) and then feel free to ignore them. Check your policy in case they snuck in even more exemptions...

Quick question: Dimming 6v LED plinthlights

That's a PWM dimmer. It says 12V though, not sure what it would do with 6V. Not sure if the plinth lights are driven directly from a 6V DC supply. Very often they will have some sort of internal driver that would prevent the simmer from working. The flexible LED strips work with PWM dimmers...

    Integrated or GU10 LED downlighters?

Now you're just being silly. I didn't recommend cheap and nasty anything. I recommended buying lamps from large high street retailers that might last 10-20 years, or you might be unlucky and they'll melt in two or three. Either way you're quids in and there are easy replacements. Not left...

    Functional earth

I think the implication is that the manufacturer, or at least the guy that wrote the leaflet, is incompetent. The earth and "functional earth" are clearly connected in the socket. It would certainly be interesting to know the brand. Homebase sell a lot of Schneider stuff, but maybe other stuff too.

    Integrated or GU10 LED downlighters?

I don't like the integrated ones. In part that's my own personal reaction to the junk-it-and-buy-new mentality. The integrated lamps are more expensive and they aren't necessarily any better. They have to be thrown away if the lamp gives out, which it shouldn't (fingers crossed) for ten or...

    LED flicker

Winston, why do you keep coming out with this crap when not only does everybody contradict you, but you can be proved wrong by the simple task of replacing a 12V lamp with an LED one? 99% of MR16 (don't even start with more of your crap, Winston) lamps include their own "driver" that will...

    Led spotlights

LED GU10s don't get as hot as halogen GU10's :) Perhaps your concern is not for burning your hand, but for the life of the LED? One approach is just to trust that a reputable brand/retailer is selling bulbs that can survive their own power. Or get lots of low-power ones, but that is no guarantee...
