    Damp proofing

Hi In liverpool. When I was there over the weekend, I know it's no scientific approach, but the walls along the outside seemed quite dry to touch, I know you need a meter to test. I did use a multi meter to see if I could get a resistance reading, i couldnt get and conductivity reading. As my...

Hi My daughter has just moved into a 110 yr old semi. She had a survey done where they suggested there might be slight damp in the down stairs. Having had a contractor in, they stated that although it wasnt too bad would cost £7000. The length of wall to be sorted was 30 feet . Is £7k the...

    Slotted screws

I seem to have acquired over the years 1000's of slotted screws, but of course they are difficult to use with a power drill. Is there anything that one can use as a guide to fit over the screw when using a electric driver? I hate to throw screws away. Cheers

    Unvented System hammering noise

Hi I had a guy come around this morning, to resolve my issue on my un vented tank. I wanted to observe what he was doing, out of interest. After taking the cover off the valve he then started to undue a nut, I asked him if the tank needed draining. At this point I asked to see his certificate...

    Unvented System hammering noise

I thought that was a high price, but getting someone was not easy. I'm not going to tell him how to do it, but from past experiences I dont want my house flooded. Just by looking at the location of the valve it seems that the tank would need draining to at least the level of the valve.

    Replacing Lath and plaster ceiling

Thank you for all your advice, my daughter has since sunday had a builder come in to quote for an extension, and has seen the ceiling or lack of one in the bedroom, and told her the ceiling timbers are too narrow to plaster board on, only 40mm. I was worried this might be the case .

    Un vented system hot water

I dont mind hear about the politics, it adds flavour. The guy who came was only here for less than 5 mins, which cost me £25 , which he will reduce if he gets the job, which he wont get. Maybe I'm too cautious as he didnt have a van... Anyway now I know what the problem is I can at least get a...

    Replacing Lath and plaster ceiling

I'm not sure how far the joists are apart, didnt measure them when I was there, but think about 600mm... When you say you used decking boards, you mean right angles to the joists? Some of the joist are really loose. I was going to use loft boarding from B&Q.

    Replacing Lath and plaster ceiling

I was going to get it boarded and plastered, but just thought as some of the joists move they might stop the joists moving.
