Shock off DVD player - case showing charge

Was that the UHF in or out - wouldn't be suprised at getting a minor tingle of the UHF out - that's just the signal (even though it's only small I think at that high a frequency our impedance drops so we feel the shock more than the few mVs would suggest). Also what are you measuring...

    Ideal Boiler Location ?

Doesn't that depend on the house layout :?

Re: An official petition to No 10 to review part P..

Has actually part P had any impact on this sort of workman?? I fear the reality is that whislt it may have raised awareness and improved quality in those already looking to do a good job - it has had no impact on those operating outside the regulations. As with any change of law/regulation...

    Fuse Boards

Has been mentioned here recently that the current draft of the 17th edition of the regs requires all circuits to be RCD protected (whether a single RCD will be allowable I don't know - must go and read). So I wouldn't rush into changing things. Reading between the lines of you original post...

    Project "House"

You ground a cast iron bath!!! Standard approach is to smash with a sledge hammer - starting at the tap/waste end. Did ours recently (in situ as it was against the wall on three sides), once you get the hang it is easy. Took about an hour in all. Gloves, ear defenders, and eye protection...

Central heating won't get above aprox 22C

22C seems plenty warm enough - our, calibrated, digital stat normally shows 20 (and is set at 20), plenty warm enough for t-shirts! If you normally have it set at 25C the calibration must surely be out - in which case it could be thinking its 25C and cutting out - even though thermometer is...

    17th Edition

I think you will find that "the same current carrying capacity" is a direct quote from the document :)

    17th Edition

AFAICT - so hardly conclusive then  Your scenario is one where I think part-p goes to far - by making a simple one for one replacement of an upgraded cable (with better routing) a notifiable job. Personally I think it would make sense to have treated the replacement of an underspec'd...

    17th Edition

Technically there is nothing ambiguous about that statement - it says a precaution must be taken - not that the precaution should guarantee it can't be removed. As you have quoted it any precaution will unambiguosly satisfy the regulation. What it doesn't do is define what is an acceptable...

    ring main.. with downstairs spurs

Am I out of date? I thought the regulations were that the number of spurs should not exceed the number of sockets in the ring - therefore 4 spurs on a 6 socket ring is allowable. Bit if it's possibe do it propery and make a full ring.

How I did the Loft Light

Could I suggest a neon on the switch in the landing - kids/visitors might switch it on accidentally and it could be weeks before you notice. Parents house has this and it seemed a very sensible idea.

    Painting uplighters

Like this? http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?id=11480 We have some that are emulsioned the same colur as the wall. Didn't do anything special - suppose it might be a good idea to give them a first coat of watered down emulsion.

    Circuit Breaker

Hm - weird. Whereabouts in Bristol are you, I'm in East Bristol and have Part P qualified friend who might be able to have a look at this for you. Know he's doing a Bathroom this week - but given the circumstances, if it's local he may be able to pop in. Apologies to MOD if I'm breaking...

    offset bottom feed float valve

48cm! Doesn't it hit the floor? Just measured one I took out when I gutted our bathroom last month (kept as spare for downstairs loo) - 48mm. Was last replaced about 10 years ago and would have come from Wickes or B&Q. Have you tried the sheds or just plumbers merchants?

    Electric socket under water pipes

Sounds like they are especially knowledgable about excuses that enable them to avoid the install and knock off early.
