architect/technician what way forward for the industry?

Nearly there but you would only take out run-off at the point you give up doing that kind of work. It does not cover you for new jobs, so if you picked up the cudgel again, you could either: keep the run-off cover, take out new PII (and then take out an additional runoff policy when you...

architect/technician what way forward for the industry?

PII works from a date that you set when you take out the policy. If the jobs you want covered pre-date when you take out the policy, then you take out what is called retroactive cover (for more cost, obv) eg you take out a policy now, but want cover for all your work back to 2005, then you take...

Oops, didn't read too closely and assumed rafter was plan span! Ok, so it's 30°... Regularised 50x175C24 or 75x150C24 for plan span 3600mm. With tiles on roof.

Well they work for that span as C24 grade. He's mixed rough sawn and regularised sizes though.

What are these (and more importantly, what do they do?)

Your trusses are Fink type. All trusses have longitudinal bracing at points where individual members that make up the truss meet. There will also be diagonal bracing on the underside of the rafter members at either end and there can also be plan diagonal bracing on the ceiling, depending on the...

architect/technician what way forward for the industry?

You would take out what is called run-off cover. If you don't have insurance at the time of the claim, you are not covered. PII runs from policy start date, unless you specifically request retroactive cover for previous work. Previous cases mean your liability period is pretty much...

architect/technician what way forward for the industry?

Don't necessarily disagree with your pov, and I am certainly not risk-averse; however, in these litigious times, I am not prepared to put all that I have on the line, just so slimy little rat of a lawyer can come and snaffle it based on some spurious interpretation of law. As an example...

architect/technician what way forward for the industry?

If a punter is unhappy about anything and goes legal, the first thing a solicitor will do is fling sh*t in all directions in the hope that it will stick somewhere. Whether guilty of negligence or not, you still have to defend yourself, involving time and expense. The point is Woods, it...

And I agree 100% with that - but there are those who like the perceived safety of employment and will go back to it at the first opportunity.

Oh and keep paying the subs. You worked (reasonably arf arf!) hard to get the quals, don't give 'em up even if they might not be of any direct or obvious use to you at the moment. And they're tax deductible as well.
