    Subsidence?

Doesn’t look too bad to me. Hard to tell really but I’d be more concerned if the outside walls were cracked also. It appears to be just superficial cracks in the plaster inside you should strip it back for a better look.

    Worried about external brickwork...

Is your house in Scotland as it looks like a pretty common house we have up here. Presume it’s a timber frame? The green patch on the bottom pic is below the DPC which is designed to be wet so no worries there. above it the white staining is what’s called efflorescence which is a build up of...

Cost of trench blocks, vs more concrete.....

Bricky I work with always uses minimum concrete and builds most of his founds 14” solid concrete block to do away with the cavity fill. If it is upto me though I’d spend the money on the extra concrete to avoid tight founds with heavy blocks.

Builders Quotes - Is this correct

Can’t speak for everyone mate that’s just how I do things not saying it’s right or wrong but I think itemising every single item I’m buying in say an extension is total overkill. when you do enough of them you can work out a decent enough timescale to work to and have a rough idea of how long...

Builders Quotes - Is this correct

Nah not for hourly or day rate either I have that worked out for myself and if it comes in under the timescale you price for your up slightly and if it comes in over that’s your mistake as a professional. The price is the price. unless you come across a major snag in the build. Then you have...

Builders Quotes - Is this correct

I don’t break down quotes to every item. I break it into 3 parts, materials, labour and hire costs skips etc....that’s it. if the customer wants the work done they will be happy enough with that

    Block & Render question

Depends on the age of the house if it’s older it may be imperial brick if it’s a relatively newer build 70s onwards chances are it may well be blocks. Most jobs that are being rendered are built with block where possible for cost effectiveness and speed so what your suggesting is the norm
