For all it is wouldn’t you be better building it out of 100mm blocks??

How good do you need to be

Been to a couple of jobs where people have had a go at doing things them self’s usually to try and save a bit of coin. Ive had foundations put in way off the level, people trying to build up to damp height and coming in way too high for the floor. Just leads to more work/cost putting it right...

    Wacker plate

Been using for almost a year now and can’t fault it to date. The engine is just a copy of a Honda and has plenty of compaction power. Not used it for any heavy duty work, mostly floors in extensions so whacking the blinding and hardcore and it’s not missed a beat. It’s early doors as I’ve...

    Is this brickwork/porch OK?

Well if your happy enough for him to carry on that’s your call. major issues are the bonding pointing and lack of ties. Leading to a potentially unsafe structure and without sounding like a total knob your not going to get anywhere near to perfect judging on his work.

    Is this brickwork/porch OK?

(y)(y)(y) Should be some sort of tie both sides yeah. To be fair though looking at the brickwork that’s the least of your worries I wouldn’t be asking him to finish the job anyway. A decent bricky will have that taken down and back up to the same height in a couple of hours I’d wreckon that’s...

    Is this brickwork/porch OK?

Couple of things that stand out right away are the jointing the bonding and the lack of ties or a wall starter if you think he hasn’t put them in. All in all without sounding too harsh, it looks a pretty poor job. on first impressions I wouldn’t be recommending this guy to build anything.

Spec for a low garden wall

I’d double up and go for a 1 brick thick wall. And throw in some weep vents for good measure. By the time you have your hardcore and sand compacted behind the wall the weight over time will probably start to belly out 6” (150mm) Found should see you all right

    Cracks in Mortar between bricks

Could be caused by a cold winter, by the mortar mix being too strong or too weak in parts or the mortar drying out too quick if it was built on a hot day etc these are just some suggestions you could have it raked out and re-pointed but it would probably stand out more than the hairline cracks...

    Cracks in Mortar between bricks

I wouldn’t get yourself too worked up about hairline cracks like that. It could be caused by a number of things but looking at your pictures they seem pretty insignificant. I doubt you have serious structural issues such as subsidence

    Brick/block below dpc

When I’ve done it before usually use a mix of 6:1 building sand cement below the bell cast (dpc) and then roughcast or like you say k rend or whatever above. But I get what ye mean in an ideal world I would use blues or something equivalent

    Brick/block below dpc

Aye your right. I have seen it done though and if the OP is desperado to get it built he could probz do just that.

    Brick/block below dpc

By the sounds of things using a bell cast bead above dpc and rendering the blocks underneath could be a viable option? Unless I’ve missed something

    Compacting were soil

Planning on levelling my mates new build garden out before it’s getting turfed. It’s a mix of puddles and divots on a pretty steep slope. Just soil and clay and some boulders. What I would like to know is would we be better adding a layer of hardcore on top of this after we have roughly...

Prolong Life Single Skin Garden Wall

If it doesn’t already have them you could add weep vents to allow the water to pass through the wall
