    Joiners dodgy decision

The door was completely wrong size from the drawings my pal came home and that's what he was left with. Bit of a mess even without taking the lintels into consideration.

    Joiners dodgy decision

Wasn't so much the 70mm i was worried about it was the fact he butchered it with a 9" grinder then must've knocked it through with a mashy (y) So there's not much of brick left at all maybe if he had cut it with a bigger blade it would be better

    Joiners dodgy decision

Recently fitted larger lintels for a friends new patio doors. Turns out the joiner got the size of the doors wrong then told my friend the barely 70mm bearing either side would be fine. Not only that he's went and cut the opening with a 9" grinder so it's barely sitting on half a brick...

Think your getting shafted pal, shouldn't take longer than a shift even with materials price seems a bit on the high side :)

Building piers on top of a wall

In the link you sent looks like concrete fence posts being used which would also work (y)

Building piers on top of a wall

Done something kind of similar but had to bed 4x4posts in at the back of the piers along the wall. As has been said strapping it directly to a 9" butt wouldn't bode too well in high winds

    RSJ support. Cracking.

Judging by the pics you've put up just echoing what the others have said I can't see a relevant reason for asking you to dig so deep seems a bit daft when you have a perfectly good internal leaf. Bet it's cost you a bit in time paying for labour, digging etc aswel. Will the old steel be of any...

Can I knock through this wall?

Nah a slap through is just slang for forming a new opening. You could just hire strong boys and yer acros from yer local hire place where abouts in Scotland are ye? I wouldn't want to give you a specific opening size for calling in a SE just when I read you were opening up 2 x 2.5 m doorways...

Can I knock through this wall?

Yeah looks like it should be straight forward enough to do just looking for two slap throughs either side of the pier...as for supporting the brickwork and roof above the job whilst the work is getting done have a look at acro props with strong boys. Should give you an idea of how it works...

    Wacker plate

Aye that's the risk ye take I suppose. Checked the company out online and seem to be pretty well established German company so hopefully shouldn't be too hard to get spares if you need to. I'll report back when it arrives let ye know how it performs

    Wacker plate

Guys just a wee heads up if anyone is interested. Was in the market for a wacker there for smallish projects the odd bit of paving etc. So was looking in screwfix and found the following. https://www.screwfix.com/p/scheppach-hp1100s-5-5hp-petrol-compaction-plate-530-x-350mm/2905v Doing a wee...

    patio pointing help

Mortar stain remover should do a job just dab it on with a damp cloth and wash off. Should lift if it's just light staining and still fresh. I'd wear gloves as it's an acid though.

    Dry stone retaining wall?

The ground behind it looks pretty firm from the photo. If I were doing it myself I wreckon 200mm would be sound. Sticking a bit of cement down the back defo wouldn't go a miss as long as there's plenty of drainage (y)
