    CH draining - this OK?

Rad has never been there since we've lived here. That's what I was wondering whether it would drain both sides or not. Method I have gathered is open drain cock with hose on end, then open upstairs bleeders, then downstairs bleeders. I'm only working on the upstairs circuit anyhow so...

Bit of a problem - draining gravity system

Aha, hadn't thought of that!! Under a load of old clothes, there it was!! So draining from here should get most of the water out, then remaining water in pipes I want to solder I'll have to siphon out or soak up. Don't think it's MAPP gas, it's my old chaps and he's had it a little...

    CH draining - this OK?

My central heating system is an old conventional boiler, pumped, with a header tank in the loft feeding water to cylinder. I need to drain the rads. I had located the drain cock on one of the downstairs rads, but there is no radiator currently on that leg. Will it still drain OK?

Bit of a problem - draining gravity system

When I pulled out my old bathroom on thursday ready for platering, etc I capped all the pipes off with isolation valves. Now that we are starting to put things back and working out where things are going, I'm going to need to move/modify pipework. Is there anyway of draining the system...

    Installing a bath

   I'm a bit of a plumb! When I got the bath out in the open to fit it, it soon became apparent that the baseboard was part of tha bath and had just been resined over!! Nevermind.

    Installing a bath

One other thing, is this baseboard supposed to sit tight against the bottom of the bath? I thought it was just to use a centre leg, bu tmy dad said he thought it should be wedged between the bottom of the bath and the cradle legs, and so add to support the bath itself. Any ideas?

    Installing a bath

Yeah, I was thinking that keeping the feet unwound was a bnetter idea for stability. I think all tyhe baseboard is foor is to allow use of a centre foot and spread the load some more. It's an eastbrook bath if that meansc anything.

Height of the panel I presume? I'll be doing my own panel but it gives me a guide :)

    Installing a bath

Thanks for that, well by double ended I should've said central waste/taps :) I'll set the height to suit decor then, as that is why I'm asking!! I need to buy some tiles and am trying to work out how many!! So should I still spread the load across the feet, or just put is straight down...

    Installing a bath

I've read the how to from this site but have some questions. My bath is a double ended acrlyic, 1700x695mm. It has a pair of cradle stands, and between them you are suppsoed to attach a base board, which then has a centre foot from base board, and one from each corner of cradle, height...

Isolation valves - flow direction not marked?

Bought some isolation vales from merchant this morning and unlike others I've bought they have flow direction arrow. Does this mean they can go either way, or is there a way of telling? They're 15mm large bore & 22mm std bore.

Quick question - steel lintel above doorway

Well, I had to wait for DIY place to open to get a new wrecking bar, so thought I may as well patch it up while I wait, then at worse I'd just have to pull it down again!! It's all good!!

Quick question - steel lintel above doorway

Ah, OK thanks. I ended up cementing it up anyway, as most of what was there was left so I patched up the odd bit that had broken. Is it a case of it doesn't really matter either way, or should I chip it all off? Won't take 5 mins to do.

Quick question - steel lintel above doorway

I have knocked down a dividing wall in my bathroom so left with two door ways. I have started to remove one ready to be studded up. The doorways had a steel lintel above the pair of them, which had about 1/2" skim of cement below it before the headpiece of the door frame. I guess that...

Well that's that cleared up then, as I say, thanks again for your help & guidance. The guidance I read suggested a special location was e.g. bathroom, kitchen, etc I have not found any legislation that is more specific, but I will look further as I have obviously missed something. Yes, I...

    LV transformer Q

I know that special locations are notifiable, I said I thought than non-special locations were non-notifiable. However the circuit that I wish to modify in the newly formed bathroom was originally in a WC room (just a toilet) so does this count as a special location? It won't be a bathroom...

    LV transformer Q

Fair enough, but work I have done before was not in special locations and so I thought it was non-notifiable. As I say I am an electrician, but not a domestic spark that has to comply to building regs so I am sketchy with my knowledge of the building regs - I'm sorry that you can no longer...

    LV transformer Q

Thanks for your helpful comments, I will indeed talk to my LABC. What are you tried with in court for not applying for building regs if your work is up to std and no-one has been hurt? Just out of interest. I don't try to evade the law, I'm just trying to understand how people who can't...

    LV transformer Q

I will be asking them later on when I get to work ;) What happens if someone who isn't aware of relevant building regs has done work in their home that needed notifying, but hadn't been. I'm sure I've read on here that BC won't inspect after alterations have been made, so how does one turn...
