    Re-roofing tile choices

Hi, Weve recently bought an Edwardian semi built in 1906 which currently has the original rosemary tiled roof. The roof is a mess and the previous elderly owner had it painted before he put it on the market which limits repair options and in reality as its approaching 110 years old now...

    Sash window draft proofing

Hi, Im looking to get my original single glazed sash and casement windows professionally draft proofed, Ive had one company out but was a bit shocked by the price quoted. The sash windows require no woodwork repairs and currently open correctly with the cords having been renewed...

    Bay window cracks

Hi, thanks for the reply. Sorry for the confusion, I was actually referring to the bedroom floor where there was a small gap between the skirting and floorboards in the bay - it may be nothing it wasnt huge and I wouldnt have noticed if it wasnt for the cracks. The ground floor seemed fine...

    Bay window cracks

Hi, We went to view a 1920s house yesterday with a large bay window to the front. I noted that in the ground floor living room there was a visible crack around the coving in the bay. There were also cracks running vertically down the wall where the bay meets the house. In the upstairs...

    Outside tap problem

Its an old row or terraced houses, I guess theres one tap for number of houses. Seems a bit odd that the stop tap is at the front when the water supply appears to come in at the back. Oh well all fixed now anyway. :)

    Outside tap problem

That had actually crossed my mind! Im not on a meter though and to be honest as I only pay £12 a month unmetered Ive not been inspired to get one! As for stop cocks there is one in the house, but I can see that nothing goes back into the garden downstream from that so its definately not...

    Outside tap problem

Hi, Theres an outside tap at the bottom of my garden which I recently noticed was leaking quite badly. The tap is connected to a 15mm copper pipe which comes directly out of the ground next to the garden wall. It appears to be completely separate to the house supply anyway and there is no...

New window leaking, possibly roof leak?

Possibly, unfortunately I dont have a big enough ladder to check - however I have noticed that not much water comes out of the downpipe at the bottom when raining. How is it getting through the lintel and behind the window frame though?

New window leaking, possibly roof leak?

Yes it is one major coincidence, the house has solid walls though. Not sure what more I can get them to do though, i can run my finger over the seal it seems good, but the water is clearly coming in over the top of the frame. I was suspecting the roof but then it would have to get through a...

New window leaking, possibly roof leak?

Hi, I recently had new windows fitted, the very night after they were installed I was awoken during torrential rain by dripping water coming down the inside of the bedroom window frame. So I assumbed there was a problem with seal and got the company back out to fix it. They couldnt find...

    Vaillant Control systems

Oh well Ill have a look for a 360 then. Thinking of it perhaps a backlit display could get a little annoying in the living room, probs a better feature for ones attached to the boiler itself.

    Vaillant Control systems

I just thought perhaps they would be bringing out new ones in the style of the 430 with backlit displays, would be handy.

    Vaillant Control systems

Hi, Thanks for the info, unfortunately I dont have the blanking panel - it was the previous owner that had the boiler fitted. Maybe I can get one off ebay. Looks like the 360 is the best bet then, Im just wandering as Vaillant have a new version of the weather compensator control with the...

    Vaillant Control systems

Thanks for clearing that up, presumably the 360 would be mounted in place of my existing analogue thermostat, if so could I use the existing wiring or would that need to be replaced? Secondly what do I do with the 130 fitted to the boiler currenty, would this have to be removed? If so what do I...

    Vaillant Control systems

Hi, I have an Ecotec pro28 in a 2 bed mid terrace house. Currently it has the most basic 24 hr analogue timer and a 20 year old analogue room thermostat wired in. I would like to upgrade the controls but Im a little confused as to what I need from the vaillant range. I was thinking of...

    Small roof leak

Good point, its a 2 bed terrace maybe 10 tiles. I asked if he would rebed rather than just touch up, his reply was hed do his best to remove them and rebed them but its not allways possible to remove them without breaking tiles, in which case hed repoint.

    Small roof leak

Yeah I was suspecting as much, coincidently I just had a guy out to clear the gutters - there was loads of bits of mortar in them on closer inspection I can see gaps between the ridge and roof tiles around the back. Hes quoted me £150 to repoint them, fair price? Cheers

    Small roof leak

Hi, I was up in the loft during ones of this weeks torrential downpours. I spotted a small wet patch on the loft flooring about the size of a 50p coin. Anyway looking directly above there is a hole in the roof lining the whole was wet to touch. Looking outside I can see no missing or...

    Nasties found under floorboards

Thanks, The water and gas bonding was checked last year he said they were ok, (but needed new clamps). I guess its a remnent of the previous installation then, perhaps thats what the junction box is also its hard to see where it leads from right now as the bedroom boards it heads towards are...
