    Fuel boss executive

Would it by any chance have a rechargeable back up battery in it? If this has failed to a low resisatance it could drag down the operating voltages in the circuit causing all manner of problems. Open the box and have a look.

Strange things happening in my header tank.....

If the water level moves a bit it's because the pipes from the tan to the system don't join at exactly the same place and the pump pressure is different at these two places. If it doesn't move much so doesn't cause the cistern to empty or the expansion pipe to discharge into the cistern, it's...

    Cistern very slow to fill.

Some floatvalves have a filter which can get blocked If you take the whole thing to bits you can clean it out. A brand new float valve is not expensive and might be quickest/best fix, particularly if the old one is noisy. You should be able to get a virually silent fill in under a minute.

Trying to complete Heating /Diagram / Schema. Any comments ?

You might consider a new hot water cylinder as you can get better insulated one than those made in the '60's and if you order one with a scecond outlet for a shower, the additional cost isn't great and you'd get it in a few days, probably. You can choose where the second pipe is to go. You can...

    New controller advice please

You can tell if the pump is running, by listening to it or touching it. if it has the usual multi position speed switch on the side, you'll definitely hear a difference when you change the speed. You say you have a two port valve on the hot water cylinder, controlled by the cylinder stat. So it...

does my watertank in the loft need to be covered?

Is the water hot, causing evaporation? It shouldn't be.

    HW but no CH ??????

Americans like to put in 2 two port valves. Brits like to put in 1 three port valve. I don't think either is better, but one valve is cheaper than two. Two port valves easier to wire when you have more than two things to heat e.g. two heating zones plus hot water cylinder. You can test that the...

How do I get this type of TRV to shut off fully / remove ??

Not sure if mine are same as yours, but on mine you twist the ring nearest the valve, with the head set to fully open. Quite strong spring resistance. Or telephone Danfoss.

please help heating and hot water wiring

I think honeywell make a wiring centre which you can buy which would enable you to tidy up the wiring One wire per terminal on a printed circuit board. Or at least they used to.

    Couple of easy(?) waste questions

Obviously you haven't finished yet, but I was a bit alarmed to see the electrical junction box, you wouldn't want that to be under the basins!

    ball valve problems

Last time I was there, you could get a Fluidmaster in Homebase, but Wickes was cheaper.

Massive gas bill, Baxi Solo 3 60 PF

I'm not sure I can help, but:- Is the timer set to run the system for the minimum times possible? Can you reduce the temperature in some rooms - if TRV's are they working? Is the dwelling damp? That makes a thermal link that drains out your heat - solution for a tenant is to move address...

    room thermostats

You put the wall mounted room thermostat in the room you use most. Usually the living room. The rest are controlled by TRV's. Or, despite the regs, you fit a system without a roomstat which monitors the flow in the system and interupts the boiler until flow is re-established. Some boilers can...

    isolating valve in pipe runs

Chrishutt is right. A restriction by something like a 'ballofix' valve won't cause a problem. Because the hydraulic resistance depends upon the whole route, not just one bit of it. The pipe size is related to the heat output required, as it affects the flow rate. You won't have to worry about...

    Couple of easy(?) waste questions

There are maximum recommended lengths for waste pipes connecting to stacks. Exceed these and you risk the water being sucked out of the trap, leading to drain smells in the room. The antivac trap is a 'cheat' to successfully get over this problem. Waste pipes should be installed with a two and a...

Siting of a gas boiler flue?

Another point which has been touched on but not followed up is that the flue and, presumably, a condensate pipe both constitute trespass. So does the condensate discharge and the flue gas as they are both being forcefully discharged on your property. I don't think your verbal agreement to a hole...

    Ticking radiator

Glad there's some progress! Got to be on the route of the still ticking pipe, Is it both of them or just one? If you put back the quiet rad (having put some isolation e.g. a bit of rubber sheet, bit of cloth or lagging) on the wall brackets where they touch the rad, does the noise come back?

    Mains Tap

Waxoyl from car accessory shops is my choice. You have to put it on then leave it for about a week to penetrate. Heat might shift it.
