    Balance transfers?

I used to have £2000 or so on a HSBC cc. was paying £15 per month minimum (all i could afford). Looking at a statement I found that of that £15, a massive £0.75p was coming off my balance!!! At that rate, I think i worked out that it would take me 222yrs to clear and cost £40,000 :shock...

    New Year, New Bathroom

Hey alp. Welcome to the world of destroy it yourself! Having been where you are, the best advice I can give is to prepare as much as you can before you take the leap into non-toilet world. I got our bathroom from B&Q last year. Never fitted one before so I went over and over...

    Nursery Furniture

Thanks Thermo! Appreciate it. :D I do keep meaning to use wooden blocks, but by the time I remember to do so I've usually already gone and clamped the piece up!

    finding a tradesman

What he said. We found 'our' electrician that way. Guy came round to our then rented house to fit a new heating element to the boiler. We liked him so we took his number. When we bought our first house, we had him re-wire the whole place and subsequently had him back for small jobs like moving...

    Nursery Furniture

Cheers for that, guys! Love the 'Norm' comment - he's my hero! Pretty much finished the wardrobe. Just needs the front plugs knocking off and re-sanding. Having hung the full-length door, I realised that it looked a bit .... plain. :? The changing unit was smaller and had more...

Which £50 Drill for my Dad for Xmas?

I've used a couple of tools by MacAlister. From what I've seen, they're a fair bit better made than other tools in their price range (ProPower etc...) Not used one of their drills before but I'd be prepared to risk it based on the quality of the 2 sanders of theirs I've got.

Mods - Are You In Danger Of Running Out Of Padlocks?

I think: 'A suitably indifferent, non-religion specific, winter-orientated period to all!' is a fairly PC safe greeting for this time of year!

    Nursery Furniture

In yet another effort to expand my wood-butchery skills, I offered to make some nursery furniture for a lady I work with. She was after a changing unit and a matching wardrobe for her daughters newborn. Having seen the prices of pieces from places like mothercare, she realised that she...

Which £50 Drill for my Dad for Xmas?

I've been bashing away with the Worx for a few months now. Taken a fair bit of abuse with wood drilling/screwdriving for which a fairly hefty amount of torque was needed. Not let me down yet. The 2 gears come in handy for hi-torque/low speed screwdriving and hi-speed/less torque drilling...

    What should I do?

Just to stick my oar in... .. you confront her. She say's 'no - all innocent. Secretly stored number is perfecly legitimate...' ... Then what? She feels you dont trust her. Would/could you accept her response that it was all innocent? Do you trust her? What answer do you really...

    Clean as you go

I remember one episode of Grand Designs where this German company was building a pre-fab, Huf house. The guys worked like robots through the day, cleaning up as they went and then spent the last 1/2hr taking all their tool boxes apart, cleaning them and re-organising their screws, straightened...

    The Worst Way to Die

Now THAT has just made it to the top of my 'worst-way-to-die' list.  Crushed to death! *shudders*

Are you looking forward to Christmas?

Crimbo has no religious significance for me whatsoever. I celebrate it as a cultural tradition more than anything. Swap pressies with Mrs WC, eat too much and watch the Great Escape... again. Probably drive 45mins to visit each others families on Boxing day.

    The Worst Way to Die

Toes-first under a roller, disemboweld 'Braveheart' style, dragged apart between 2 vehicles... Always thought hypothermia is a fairly low-trauma way to go ... if you have to be awake, that is. Pretty nippy for the first stages then you go numb and a bit drunk-like. Oh, and then you die...

the best laid plans and all that.

Can't believe how stupid they were. They'd done a good job of faking the death. Got the insurance pay out. Then a few days later, ta-da! 'No, I am alive! What do you mean, you want the insurance money back...?' Why turn up at the Police station? Why not just appear at home one day...

    The Guy At Number Three.....

When the van's gone, make sure the neighbours see you dragging a heavy, rolled up carpet and a shovel into the boot of your car. Around dusk, perhaps. And make sure you look suitably 'shifty'.. 'For the greater good...'

what has the sudan done for us.

Ah, right. Bit of both, really. Our local council has apparently gone to the trouble/expense of conducting 1/2hr lectures on how not to insult/offend other faiths with this explosive, inflammatory concept of 'Christmas'. Usual guff: no decs, hats, cards... can only have 'Winter...
