    gas course acs

This subject is a particular hobby horse of mine and one I feel which constitutes a national scandal. Firstly I think that it's worth pointing out that you never stop learning/re-learning in this job (Gas industry) however much experience that an engineer has. Anyone who is not prepared...

    Conservatory Radiators

Nor me..never given it a moments thought..never ever heard it mentioned in passing by anyone in the trade that I've spoken too either. What exactly is the reason for not doing it? I'd imagine that half the conservatories that I've been in have one!

Boiler pressure problem after cleaning out Magnaclean filter

I think that you'll find that if you didn't drain down with a hose and used the pressure relief valve that it could well be leaking...either worn spring or grit on seating. Us Professionals avoid draining down by Pressure relief valve like the plague because they will almost always leak on...

Boiler pressure problem after cleaning out Magnaclean filter

The isolation valves on the Magnaclean are quite misleading in as much as you can think that you have turned them off but they actually need an extra bit of Oomph to click them over the last fraction which actually closes them. 1) Did you bleed the Magnaclean itself on refilling? 2)...

    Radiator tails and sizes

Threads are in imperial sizes and will be a standard 1/2 inch not 15mm, it is unlikely that any domestic radiators will have a larger size than this, if this is the case it is likely to be 3/4 inch and you can bush it down to 1/2 inch, all current standard Rad valve tails will fit the smaller...

Pilot keeps going off after 5-6 days in kingfisher2 boiler

He doesn't need to drain the system at all, ring him back get his Corgi number and report him. Get the pilot cleaned, possibly change pilot injector and T/couple, all pretty much small beer. Check for any oxygen sensor as suggested or safety limit cut out in T/couple line. Win...

Does my old Ideal 'E' Type boiler need more gas pressure

Gasguru As an ex British gas engineer with 30 odd years experience I'm well aware of the appalling standards within the gas industry over each and every year of that experience. Corgi for me are as complicit in the continued disgracefully low standards as anyone. The majority of gas...

Does my old Ideal 'E' Type boiler need more gas pressure

Because a) Why should we have to? b) The engineers as often as not will just fit a new governor without adjustment leaving us in the same position. We often have undergassed fires/fronts due to a faulty governor, call out Wales and West who fit a new governor without adjustment as they...

Does my old Ideal 'E' Type boiler need more gas pressure

Namsag do you seriously think that ourselves or the council would turn off hundreds of firefronts because we can't be bothered to make a phonecall? The Transporters in South Wales (Wales and West) refuse to respond to any call to alter governor Working pressures if they are within the range...

Does my old Ideal 'E' Type boiler need more gas pressure

Apart from the fact that you will not get 50mb on a domestic Natural gas installation..it's a cap off and isolate at the meter at 23mb and above. Until a few years ago all governor installations were set at 8.3" water gauge or the equivalent 20.5 mb by the Gas Board, Transco or whatever...
