    Top Gears 3 wheeler test

I thought the best bit was the entrance he made to the Reliant Robin Owners Club meet. Only decent car assembled by Reliant was for Ford RS200.

    Are my expectations too high.....?

I had a UPVC front door fitted about a month ago, looks great and is exactly what we wanted, the price wasn't the cheapest by any means, but i've had a few issues with it. First off they fitted the wrong door panel, which I accepted as a genuine mistake, got rectified eventually after three...

    Shower Elbow Joint Leak :o(

Holy naff bath panel lighting Batman. Rather than messing around for weeks I would probably have considered brazing the elbows onto the body of the shower.

    Tree stump/root removal

As the garage is due to be constructed in about a month waiting for the roots to rot is out of the question, lol. We dug round it and cut the roots with a maul while winching what was left of the trunk over. Not exactly my idea of a fun 3/4 hours but we got there. I will probably try...

    Tree stump/root removal

Hah, you would have to be a bit daft to cut the rope or branch you are roped onto, if you are methodical it's not a hard task, that said it's not something I want to do too often, compared to abseiling or scaling a cliff face it's pretty scary.

New Ceiling being installed - lights query

Technically no, however in reality, if you are not actually altering the wiring who is to know. All you will be doing is removing and refitting a light fitting, the rest of the cabling will be left as is I assume anyway.

Knotty Pine doors - Urgent Help please

I wish I had just bought moulded doors to be honest. I've got a few of the same range doors downstairs but with glass in the top section that have not warped, very strange indeed.

    Tree stump/root removal

I grew up on a farm, so most of the chainsaw work I have done has just been felling trees and cutting up into managable pieces for fuel, never actually had to ever get rid of a stump bar a few small conifers. I will have to talk to my girlfriends dad and see what is being hired, I agree if he...

    Tree stump/root removal

Will grinding the stump out be sufficent? it's a raft foundation that is going where this tree is, it was the first thing I suggested but he was adament it needed to be removed totally. Deluks - Climbing equipment, I've used a chainsaw regularly for the last 10 years, i'm certainly not daft...

    Tree stump/root removal

My girlfriends dad asked me to help him remove a Weeping Willow in his garden, it needs to be removed due to an extension that is being built. I cut off all the branches with a chainsaw and am now left with a 10 meter tall trunk. Any ideas on how to remove the trunk/root ball, I was...

    damp in chimney

Once the flashing is corrected I would imagine it would take around a week for the plaster to dry out, maybe run a dehumidifier, but don't try and bake it dry with heat. The actual brickwork must be saturated to cause that much damp, I would expect that to take months to fully dry out.

    Painting outside of house.

My girlfriend has suggested we paint the pebbledash finish on the upper half of our house white/off-white, I think it will look good but am currently treating the idea with contempt as A) I am lazy B) I don't want to find I have a painting job on my hands every year keeping it looking right...

    Plaster cracking

I think you have it on one Richard, I am able to close the door in a normal fashion, my girlfriend seems to need to slam it with 10 times the force needed to close it. The current finish is a strong cement render base with a multifinish top coat, how would you improve on this?

    Plaster cracking

In my kitchen I have a wall that is only half brick width, there is a UPVC door in this. The plaster finish was excellent, however as the door has been slammed shut over a few weeks I guess the slight flex has caused the plaster to hairline crack, the plaster isn't blown and sounds solid when...

What colours to use with stained wood?

The cornice, skirting and door does not look too bad, if it were me and I wanted a cheap fix I would probably do the following. Remove all paper from the walls and dado rail, fill and of the major holes that develop, repaper with a thick lining paper or a slightly textured paper, then paint...

    Staining/Varnishing Pine

Ok I have purchased a pine fire surround that I liked the look of, only problem is it's currently varnished in a yellow/orange hue, ideally I am looking for some advice on what products to use in order to give it a more mexican pine/light oak colour. Also any advice on how to remove the...

    Enlarging fireplace / Lintel

Oldun - All the plaster is blown in the room (under the embossed paper) so will all need to be removed, I guess that will give me a good idea as to what is occuring. RIchard C - Cheers for the info, just doing a bit of research at the moment, will probably be looking to do it in a few weeks...

    Enlarging fireplace / Lintel

I'm removing a redundant 1970's monstrosity of a gas fireplace and intend to replace it with a more period looking coal fireplace. I don't have intention of actually ever using this fireplace, it's purely for aesthetic reasons. The issue I have is the cast fireback will not fit into the...
