    Painted door looks messy

Ah, good - I'm on the right track then. Thanks for that.

    Painted door looks messy

Thanks for that. Yes, the doors are as you describe and I think you've identified what I've done wrong. Doing the beading and to the edge with a brush and then using a roller for the main bit sounds right. Thanks. I think it's a foam roller that I need to use(?)

    Painted door looks messy

Hi everyone I'm a complete novice to p & d. I've been using water-based Dulux Quick Dry Satinwood PBW to paint a couple of doors using a Purdy synthetic brush. The doors have a beading all round, about 2" from the edge. I sanded the doors and washed down afterwards. After painting, the first...

    Soil pipe leak

    No worries mate, thanks again.

    Soil pipe leak

Thanks for that advice. Actually, after posting my last reply here and having another think about it, what you suggest had also occurred to me i.e. put down the vinyl flooring and then get the plumber in. Seems obvious now but I must have been in another mind-set about the problem so it took a...

    Soil pipe leak

Thanks again for your advice. Just to clarify: the new vinyl flooring isn't down yet. I'll be laying it after the leak's sorted and the WC's set up and in place. What I meant was that I was/am dubious about disturbing the WC once the leak is fixed in case I cause another leak.

    Soil pipe leak

Thanks for your input. I appreciate it but I think it's going to be a bit challenging for my DIY skills so I've decided to get a plumber in.

    Soil pipe leak

Thanks very much for the advice. I was already a bit dubious about whether or not I'd be able to do the job myself but after reading your post I'm thinking that I'm probably not up to it so I've decided to get a plumber in. I might be able to do it but I wouldn't want the scenario that you refer...

    Soil pipe leak

Here are 3 photos showing the connection. As you can see, I've tried to seal it with Plumbers Mait but I'd like to fix it properly. A couple of people on another forum advised me not to use a flexi connection as they weren't reliable so I'm feeling quite unsure now about what to do.

    Soil pipe leak

Thanks for your reply. I'll take a picture tomorrow and post it here. In the meantime I'll try to answer the points you query. 1. The flexi connector goes into a pipe which then goes out through the wall. 2. Yes, slight difference in heights. 3. it's just a simple 110mm pipe. 4. It's a low level...

    Soil pipe leak

Thanks again. Yes it is just a pipe that it pushes into.

    Soil pipe leak

Thanks, so it just pushes into the 110mm pipe? or do you have to seal it with something?

    Soil pipe leak

I want to lay vinyl flooring in the bathroom so I unscrewed the toilet bowl so as to be able to slide the vinyl underneath but in so doing I've obviously disturbed something because I've now got a leak. The leak is where the 90mm pipe from the toilet pan goes into the 110mm outlet soil pipe. The...

    Do manufacturers overestimate their coverage?

Thanks for that. I sort of assumed that overestimating was the norm but I'm still surprised that I seem to have got only a third of the coverage they suggest can be achieved. I'll take your advice and sand where it's cracking, then remist those bits and then vinyl matt everything.

    Do manufacturers overestimate their coverage?

I had a small back bedroom completely reskimmed about 6 weeks ago. I've just put a mist coat on using No Nonsense Trade Contract Matt (Brilliant W). I didn't thin it because the tub said it wasn't necessary for a mist coat. The tub says it covers 10-12 sq m. per litre. I've measured my back...

Oil based paint and water based paint

Thanks for the advice. I'm in Middlesbrough and the nearest Brewers is in Leeds, 60 miles away but I'll try my local Dulux decorator centre, assuming they sell to the general public. Meanwhile I've just bought a 10L tub of No Nonsense Trade Contract Matt from Screwfix. I've got it mainly to...

Oil based paint and water based paint

Fair enough joe but that doesn't answer my questions.

Oil based paint and water based paint

Thanks dcdec for that info. So am I right in thinking that if I buy paint with "Trade" on the tin from B&Q or Wickes etc then I'm getting the good stuff? Or do you have to buy it from a trade outlet to get the proper trade stuff, and if so do you have to be in the trade to buy from there?

Oil based paint and water based paint

So trade paint's the same wherever you buy it?

Oil based paint and water based paint

Nige, you say that paint from a trade outlet is better than from B&Q, Wickes etc but if you got, say, Dulux Trade Emulsion then surely that would be the same quality from both outlets(?)
