    Acceptable additional socket configuration

nitro23456 and kevindgas the reason for 2 JBs is exactly for the reason that securespark mentions, and certainly nothing to do with hiding information. I'm asking for genuine advice not how to do a dodge job that could risk my home and family. ericmark I have RCD protection and thanks for...

    Acceptable additional socket configuration

I've seen a few other posts on the forum relating to this but none seem to clearly answer my question (with a diagram). If I want to add a new socket to my ring main is the following acceptable? Blue is existing cables/sockets and red is new. Thanks for your help.

Mains power shower or electric shower

Couple of things to consider that may influence your decision. I put in a new mains power shower in the summer. Absolutley lovely, fantastic flow and constant temperature and pressure. BUT, I just got my half yearly water (metered) bill through. It is up 50% on the usual 6 monthly...

    Moving and Replacing Expansion Tank

Thanks for the quick reply. One last thing that I forgot to ask. Will the pipe that feeds into the tank (upon expansion) need to be of a certain height? Or can I just extend the down pipe? Will the increased height create too much of a splash? Or is that not an issue?

    Moving and Replacing Expansion Tank

Does the central heating expansion tank need to be a certain height in relation to other parts of the system e.g. boiler, hot water cylinder etc? The reason I ask is because mine used to sit on an old water tank. When this was removed so I could get some pipework in for a new shower the...

potterton prima 40 at my witts end

Check my post here. http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=156608 Different problem but also a potterton. Their own engineers guarantee a fix for £299 and everything is then covered for a year. Shame you didnt know before laying out the £350 originally. I was lucky, my engineer...

    Potterton Boiler Problem

Just for the record, in case anyone has a similar problem. It was the PCB. Incidently, got it fixed by Potterton: £299 - guaranteed next day fix, inc all parts and labour. Then boiler, controls, valves, pump etc all covered for 1 year (parts and labour). Seeing as a local engineer had...

    Potterton Boiler Problem

Do you think the fact that 2 rads are not connected could be causing poor circulation and or an air lock? Basically, trying to decide if I should connect the rads before calling an engineer, just to rule that out. Nearly finished decorating so could have the rads back on the walls by...

    Potterton Boiler Problem

Hmmmm now out of the blue, on it's own, it's just fired up. Does that point to any clues for anyone?

    Potterton Boiler Problem

Dan_Robinson I've not taken anything apart but the boiler is completely silent so I assume the fan isnt spinning. Not sure what thermistors are or how to check.

    Potterton Boiler Problem

gas4you. All I've got is 2 x 22mm copper pipes at the top, one of which has a drain off valve on it and a 15 mm copper pipe at the bottom. If it is an airlock how would I know? Or resolve?

    Potterton Boiler Problem

Just realised my boiler isn’t firing up. The lights show the status as “Ext. Call for Heat” whatever that means. But nothing is happening (thermostat set to max). I’ve tried numerous resets but still no joy. The boiler is a Potterton Suprima 60 L (Don’t laugh, I know all about the PCB...

    Wet Battens

The reason some felt is removed is because I had the valley replaced. Originally, it was made of 1/2 circular tiles (sorry don't know correct name) and I noticed a couple were cracked and the pointing at the side was crumbling. So a local builder stripped it all back and replaced with what...

    Wet Battens

Keep up? Who? If you mean me then as I said to start. The felt has been removed so I'm worried the moisture will travel along the lathe to the roof supports and start to rot it. Or are you saying I shouldn't worry this is normal and it wont rot?

    Wet Battens

Bit of a difference of opinion then. No def not condesation. Bone dry until it rains and then you can see it gradually spead across the batten. You can also see that the underside of the tile is wet along with the mortar bedding/pointing. This also seems to spread across the underside of...

    Wet Battens

Long story short, now that some of my roofing felt has been removed I can see that when it rains some of the tile battens are getting wet. There is no leak but what it looks like to me is that the capillary action of the water spreading through the tile is making the batten wet. Should I...
