    Cracks in plaster

1930s most walls where two walls join together. Mostly happens in top half of wall including internal load bearing wall. Crack smaller than 1mm. Sparks did not use angle grinder but hammer and bolster.... Plasterer sorted out chases. Could it be the new bonding pulling the old...

    Cracks in plaster

Hi, They are mostly near corners towards the ceiling. None have appeared at the bottom of the walls. Every wall has been chased in two months ago due to rewire. Some do run diagonally which is what is worrying me. In places the plaster sounds hollow when tapped. Similar cracks are on...

    wires behing skirting board

Hi, During our recent rewire, the elec. did not pull down the skirting boards. He placed the wires behind them after digging a chase behind the skirting boards. The plasterer then came and plastered behind the skirting boards. No conduit or capping was used (only on drops from ceiling)...

    Cracks in plaster

Hi, Recently I've noticed some cracks in our plaster. See pics. Are these just cosmetic cracks or can it be something more serious (ie. subsidence)? We had the house rewired a couple of months ago and there was a lot of bashing but these cracks have appeared a few weeks later so I don't...

the soil pipe needs taking out as well. It branches off the main soil pipe from upstairs so I'll need to patch the hole in the vertical soil pipe once the redundant horizontal soil pipe is taken out. So I'll need a cap of some sort for this. A friend told me just to use cement topatch the...

    Question on pipe dead legs

i'd rather have it soldered on so i'll get a pro in. I'll get him to cut the pipe back as well so that the dead leg will only be 20cm long. Thank you all for the replies.

    Question on pipe dead legs

Hello, We'd like to get rid of a toilet and I was wondering if we can just cap the end of the pipe that supplies the WC cistern or do we have to cut back the pipe back to the T junction? This would be very problematic. The length of pipe as it is measures now is about 1.2m Thank you.

    painting after rewire

do you think one coat over the rest of the wall will be enough? I am painting it white. Do you have any suggestions in terms of paint to use? Should I run some sand paper over the bits that have been skimmed? These surfaces feel smoother than the rest of the wall. Thanks.

    Stop Tap

Chris, The vendor used it when he left the house to us three months ago. IMHO shutting it would prevent a leak upstream but who is to say the tap itself would not start leaking after two days  Tap is on ground floor so at least there would be nothing going through ceiling etc etc...

    Stop Tap

Hi all, I am going on holiday for a while so i was wondering if i should close our stop tap. Will the central heating still work? The tap looks quite old but I think it may be ok to turn it. Is it advisable to close a stop tap for a holiday? Regards,

there is a lot of grey cable connected to these connector boxes. I thought grey cable was fairly recent but you guys tell me it can be old. I've also discovered a ligther grey BICC cable. Even with this one i've no clue how old it could be, no date on it.
