rendered the outside and combination of plaster, render and dot and dabed the inside. roof was insulated 8"+ thick fibreglass and bouble glazed doors and windows...warm as toast with a 2kw heater in the winter in al lbut the coldest days and cool in the summer... no additional insulation as...

    Sub-base area for shed base?

depends what you want to keep in your shed! but I built a workshop 10 years ago with the slab 25mm (an inch) bigger than the outside wall size, 9" concrete under the walls and 3-4" concrete for the slab. All this was on a few inches of hardcore very well compacted. I dug out, put the levels in...

    Blockwork Shed

Built my old workshop out of thermalite blocks (celcon) on a slab base...9" perimeter and 4" slab on well compacted hardcore. Laid the first blok and then the damp course then the rest. Theramalite are easy to lug about as light, easy to cut (use an old handsaw)...easy to put power into...use...

Shaving 0.5 cm from concrete blocks

if mess in not an issue, a 9" angle grinder will be qcuik and easy for that...if the bricks are hard, you might dislodge a few so have to then cment them back in.... Have you measured (or had measured) the casette as you might find you can get away with it as is...if it really IS 620mm then you...

Which unvented indirect cylinder to buy?

not flawed, but work out the difference in cost to install a 300 now vs a 210 or a 250 and another in x number of years...price difference between sizes is not THAT much and the extra heat loss will be minimal...but you can work that out too...

Which unvented indirect cylinder to buy?

The thing i like about this forum is that you get advice based on what people think is best...not what they are about to fit...kind of best case scenario My Father in law wanted his cylinder in the loft next to the boiler and was advised to have a either a 180 or 210 litre model. Now they...

    Designing a new hw/ch system

Y9ou rpropperty is a bit bigger than mine and you seem to like a shower room or 5, but essentially, I have 32mm MDPE mains (moled in like you are suggesting - make sure they keep it 32mm all the way for best results as my guy s wanted to tail it off at 25mm as it was easier!) I then go to 28mm...

Which unvented indirect cylinder to buy?

I had the same question ages ago. Much are much of a muchness...(i know that doesn't help...) Megaflow were over twice the price of the cheaper 'external bubble' cylinders and need the internal buble 'recharging' every 6 months to a year by the user, whereas I thought I'd rather just replace...

    chunky 12v transformer

Wow...great feedback gents. thanks. I'm looking to do a few things... using 12volt radiator fans in a spray booth (I have the fans and they are very powerful, so saves getting new fans...) and these take a reasonable current bench test the injection kit of my TVR with a new ecu...need...

    chunky 12v transformer

[/url] Thats exactly the kind of thing I was looking for...didnlt realise they were that cheap... Still will try the battery idea for a while longer though and see how it pans out...

    chunky 12v transformer

cheers guys. Have used several batteries of various vintage/state, but just wanted a permanent high current 12v fixture really. If I keep my current battery charger continuously connected in trickle mode can I cause it any damage if I then place a large load on the battery? Or could I...

    chunky 12v transformer

Hi - I'd like to have 12v available in the workshop but at a high amperage (tobe able to power car parts for some testing work without the need for constant battery being topped up) i need to runs fans, motors and other items which will draw quite a load. I think ui read somewhere that...

Vaillant System with 2 heating zones and hot water

Thuis isd the kind of thing I meant... l link here...http://www.ecproducts.co.uk/productdetail.asp?cat=47&item=1&pid=1594 Obvuously needs to interface to some kind of control unit/remote thermostat body, but must be able to be done??

Vaillant System with 2 heating zones and hot water

I'm stuffing in as much insulation as I can get as I do each room. It doesn't take long to heat up the room from cold...3.4kw heatloss for a 18by 16.5ft room with high ceilings...it tdon't want to be pumping out 3.5kw energy every hour for over a 12hour period when lines king to be in the...

Vaillant System with 2 heating zones and hot water

Aren't the network controllers deemed ok for bathrooms as only 24 volt...need to check... Really mean rather than having a box on the wall to change the temp or even the program for the room, just a thimble sensor wired back to a controller elsewhere...seen them on the Honeywell evohome set...

Vaillant System with 2 heating zones and hot water

Very interesting conversation! So my desire to zone the house comes not from differing heat loss charactoristics in the building fabric, but the desire to only heat bits of the house in use at any one time...id like to be able to set he living room on during the day and off in the evening...

Vaillant System with 2 heating zones and hot water

thanks Rick, very useful. Your reasoning is exactly the same as why i want to do mine in a similar way. Just like the idea of the heatmiser central control panel touch pad which can also set seperate times and temps for each zone/room (as I understand it). Do you think this with a vaillant...

Vaillant System with 2 heating zones and hot water

The issue there though is that its still in ine zone..so still heating more of the house than neded...unless youre saying you can have multiple zones with vaillant kit? The vrc630 does that but its 700quid...
