    New sport born?

This morning on the M40 I a woman driving a 4X4 pulled straight out from the slip road into my path even though the slip road becomes lane 1 and I had nowhere to go as there was traffic in the outside lane - lane 1 was clear! I waited until I could overtake then I pulled in as close as she had...

    ms excel expert

I'm not sure I can explain it any further, what I am trying to achieve is to write a vlookup command using a value from a cell to complete the lookup range. e.g. the lookup is =vlookup(E1,[X]Worksheet1!A$1:J$30,1,false) [X] is the filename value I am trying to insert from a cell. e.g...

    ms excel expert

Thanks but I am pretty au fait with the vlookup command - it is how to use a cell to insert a dynamic range that is evading me.

    ms excel expert

Cell A1 contains the name of a document - this document contains the data to be examined by the lookup. I want to insert a list of filenames in one document to use in a lookup string to examine other documents. The Worksheet1 is in Document 2 , Document 3, etc. So in the string the lookup...

    ms excel expert

Any ms excel experts on here? I want to create a dynamic vlookup by using a list of filenames from a range of cells i.e Doc1 range A1:A5 contains filenames for docs to be accessed. So e.g cell value will be =vlookup(B3,[Doc2]Worksheet1!A1:J20),1,false) I want to replace the [Doc2] value...

    New bath

Thanks for the replies. BTW we used to have a tin bath which was used in front of the fire in winter and out back in the summer! The water had to be heated on the fire no matter what the season - after, of course, it was drwn from the well!

    New bath

Just planning a new bathroom and one thing that that becomes obvious is the number of materials baths are constructed from. The plan is to fit a wide (800mm) bath and have an overhead shower (from the combi). What is a reasonable material in terms of wear, strength, stain-resistance, etc.. to...

    shooting the burglars

It is a fair point about certainty of being caught as the police seem very thin on the ground these days. However, the burglars in this case had been caught many times before, even the 16 year-old had 29 convictions. There seems to be a good likelihood of being caught but not of custodial...

    council tax

My brother lives in Wales, recently the local authorities have been re-banding on new valuations. As a result his property has now been 'promoted' to the next band and the charge has risen. This seems illogical to me as he uses no more resource than he did previously. How can a charge for...

    shooting the burglars

Nicely twisting the words. The burglar that died was shot in the back, the survivor was shot in the legs. There is nothing to prove whether either were running away or they were in a dark room - I would not belive on word from Brendon Fearon. Either way, they should not have been there.

    shooting the burglars

I think the real issue is why were these burglars at large anyway. The three involved in the attempted robbery had over 100 previous convictions. They should have been in a cosy cell somewhere kept from humans. The failure here is with the judiciary. Sentences for committing crimes should...

    shooting the burglars

How do you know that Tony Martin was "laying in wait"? The only testimony available is from TM and the surviving burglar. Do you really believe a lying scumbag like that?

    council tax

Band D (Oxford) £136 pm, however, if my house was 20 metres along it would still be band D but cost £142 pm - parish council boundary!

    'Defensive' Plants

If you want something quick but manageable I would suggest Dog Rose. They are established quite quickly but can be chopped back when required, possibly a gap filler whilst the other recommendations are getting established.

The old copper nail trick to kill trees....

I've removed the roots of a couple of elders from my garden. They don't go down very deep so a bit of digging and persuasion from a lever and they're out.

    LARGER

Yup, agree with that. I don't like Beamish or Murphys but I do like real ales, Banana Bread Beer, cider, wheat beer - most beers really!!

    Speed Humps

I think the narrow / square humps are known as 'speed cushions'. The idea is to slow down cars whilst allowing buses, lorries, etc. to continue unaffected. Anyone know when the first speed humps were introduced? I saw one in 'Poirot' last night, the episode was supposed to have been set in...

    Shopping around

I've just had a very similiar experience. My buildings & contents insurance renewal came through a couple of weeks ago - £326; I went on-line and got the same policy (from the same provider) for £214.
