I need to replace a ceiling and then artex it. Can anyone advise if it's ok to simply artex on top of new plasterboard or do I need to have it skimmed first. Any advice much appreciated, thanks in advance.

It might be worth checking the tightness of connections in previous lights in the circuit. Fault finding on these circuits is generally quite straightforward and a big clue will be whether the light failed following other work (even just changing a bulb) or just spontaneously

The cold can be isolated at the stopcock and the hot tank should have an isolating valve on the incoming feed (to the bottom of the tank). pressure will then stop hot water coming out of the tank. Its a good idea to open a few taps as well to allow some water in the pipes to escape safely. It...
