Soundproofing the walls because of neighbours noisy baby!

Our current house is circa 1880 and solidly built. However the loft space is common so any noise that our neigbours generate enters the roof space and is then heard in our house as well and visa versa. Thankfully they are not too noisy. Noise can also enter via any gaps that may have been...

    drilling wall help

It would help if you gave the age of the house as well as a description of the stuff breaking out. My parents house was built right after WW II and had internal walls of breeze block. It was all but impossible to get even a toilet roll holder to fix safely to that stuff as it had the...

Hi sorry it has taken so long. Here is the photo of the wall and the exposed foundation. I really do need some advice on how he can make this stable and fit to hold up the wall. NB The other side of the wall is the pavement and my concern is that this may become unstable.

Garden Wall Foundation Problem - Photo Added 13/10/06

To accomodate a caravan. He was told by the previous owner that they used to have a carport at the side of the garage which extended to he base of the wall - sadly thi snow seems to not have been correct. The foundations exposed are of a boundary wall not the house or garage - the garage is a...

Garden Wall Foundation Problem - Photo Added 13/10/06

Hi My son has had the ground at the side of his house excavated to what the previous owner told him was the original level of the ground. On the house (well garage) side this seems correct as it merely goes down to two bricks below the damp proof course. On the side adjacent to the boundary...

Stitch drill or Diamond Core drill?

Hi I have done this by drilling loads of holes then enlarging them before tackling them with a hammer and chisel but would now use at least a decent SDS drill with chisel bit in place of the hammer and chisel.

Bosch W/Machine - Overheats and Soap Dispenser Distorts

Sorry to be a pain but how can it cause so much heat that the plastic distorts given the temperature at which plastic parts are moulded? This happens even when water is still in the machine.

Bosch W/Machine - Overheats and Soap Dispenser Distorts

If I remember correctly (300 miles plus a few beers since I was there) the thermostat has been replaced plus any distorted parts.

Bosch W/Machine - Overheats and Soap Dispenser Distorts

Friend has a Bosch washing machine (not washer dryer) washes OK but overheating occurs which has caused the soap dispenser to distort and stick. As well as internal distortion the front face has also distorted. The machine is about 5 years old and regularly serviced. Not sure of the model...

    Skirting Board

Thanks for that. Not there fault though as it has been in my garage for almost a year now :) It is only slight but enough to affect the joint at the external corners. I will be scribing the internals so they may not be such a problem.

    Skirting Board

I am fitting some 8 inch deep skirting board and it has warped (across the width) slightly in storage. Can I cut grooves in the reverse side and then pull it back into true with the fixings? It has a plain back (not shaped each side).

    Moving Radiator - Combi System

To add some clarity - the radiator is already removed but the pipes that supplied it have simply been isolated via in line valves. The pipework is Speedfit (put in by the developer) so I need to shut off the two redundant feeds and creat new connections via Tees a few feet away. I was planning...

    Moving Radiator - Combi System

Hi - I am about to move a radiator and was wondering if I needed to fully drain down the system or if it was possible (after taking precautions to mop up minor spills) to simpy rely on the vacuum created to hold the water whilst I cut the pipes to make the new conection and similar when I close...

    Copper Pipe - Bending?

Hi I need to pull a few slow bends in 22 MM copper pipe and wondered if it would be easier if I were to anneal the pipe first in the chosen area? If I did this do I risk any problems? I have a correct spring from when I was younger and took more risks :-) Many thanks

    Saniflo with Hep2o / Hep20 Discharge Pipe

Sorry I opted for the good old copper route as it works fine for me as it will feed in from the side of the house (where the old but roller coaster routed waste pipe went). 7 metres plus from the bathroom and not able to achieve a constant fall with full 40mm pipe, hence the need for pumping via...
