Rate of increase in boiler flow temperature

Well I think I have actually lost the will to live. I used to think it was just a phrase not an actual state of mind! BG engineer came this morning. Both zone valves proved to be working satisfactorily, as did room stat and cylinder stat. However, he found the manual bypass valve closed...

Rate of increase in boiler flow temperature

Well this would be the second failed valve in as many years if this is the cause. Can't commit on what BG did. I just remember the boiler failing to stay on at all and they replaced this valve to fix. I've booked an engineer to visit tomorrow morning. I'll let you know outcome.

Rate of increase in boiler flow temperature

I don't think anybody actually answered my question above which I presume is now relevant to your diagnosis re: zone valve? There are 2 Honeywell two port zone valves. Interestingly, I now remember BG replaced the CH zone valve a year ago when it broke after only 12 months. Maybe this has...

Rate of increase in boiler flow temperature

Apologies for not posting a reply for a week but have been trying to work out the behaviour of the system. I have found that whilst the HW & CH are on at the same time and they are both calling for heat, all things are well. However, if HW is satisfied, boiler starts cycling even though CH...

Rate of increase in boiler flow temperature

The 12kW did include 2kW for the water. If the CH and the water are set to never be on at the same time, does that mean that the boiler can be down rated further because it will never be needing the 10kW & 2kW at the same time?

Rate of increase in boiler flow temperature

Interesting stuff being put forward here. Another 30 mins would have done it. It's really making me think (sadly I know!) about when and how much water we use and when we should really be heating it! Tell me, when I had the CH off in my scenario above, why was there heat felt at the...

Rate of increase in boiler flow temperature

Hi Tony. I don't know whether you noticed in an earlier post that our cylinder is 162 litre 48" x 18" and says on it that heat loss would be 2.74 KW per KWH/24h which probably confirms what you're saying. I don't understand the actual realities of the calculation though! Neil

Rate of increase in boiler flow temperature

Hi Tony. I have had the CH & DHW on the same timed setting from 16:00 until 21:00. We don't use a lot of water in the evening so it is a waste heating water we're not going to use much of I suppose! I seem to remember a BG engineer telling me something like 'put them on the same timing...

Rate of increase in boiler flow temperature

I altered this evenings timed setting so DHW on from 17:00 to 17:30 followed by CH from 17:30 onwards. In the half hour, the DHW rose from around 40 C to 48 C, not to the required 55 C. Additionally, the rads warmed up slightly? Following the DHW period, the boiler did seem fine heating...

Rate of increase in boiler flow temperature

Hi Tony, I hang my head in shame! You are quite correct. I didn't do that bit. I thought I'd report back to you as a two stage process. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. Anyway, I will alter the timed settings as advised. However, I am beginning to suspect there is something...

Rate of increase in boiler flow temperature

Hi Tony, Boiler rated to 16kW and set to 75 C. DHW is set to approx. 55 C. The cylinder is 162 litre 48" x 18" and says on it that heat loss would be 2.74 KW per KWH/24h whatever that might mean! We are a family of four. Advanced it on at 11:02 this morning and this is what it did: 29...

Rate of increase in boiler flow temperature

I've calculated that I have 14,376 watts of existing radiators. I also have a 48 x 18 DHW cylinder (162 litre) that I would need to add on. Is that 2kW to add on??? Now, an online whole house calculator comes out with 12kW. So, do I rate the boiler for 12kW or rate it for 14,376 +...

Rate of increase in boiler flow temperature

Thanks Tony. Yesterday, I reduced the boiler down to 75C and the return temp was 55C. I put it back up to 82C as that's what BG left it at. I think it was set to 80C when they arrived. Not sure what the return temp is at 82C though. Originally, the GW-recommended installer hadn't even...

Rate of increase in boiler flow temperature

Hi Tony, I have the calculations at home so would have to provide them later but it's a 4-bedroom detached property with 11 rads. Every rad has a Westherm TRV except the towel rail in bathroom and hall rad where the stat is. Appreciate the assistance. Cheers, Neil

Rate of increase in boiler flow temperature

Hi, I have a Glow-worm Ultracom 38hxi open vent boiler that is set to 82C. It was downrated to 16kW by BG as it had been massively oversized by a Glow-worm recommended installer that didn't know what they were doing! Anyway, BG had to replace the Grundfos pump on Saturday as there was...

Recommended replacement for Honeywell T6360B Thermostat?

I am looking to replace a Honeywell T6360B room thermostat with a wired digital non-programmable model. What make & model would you suggest and would it be an easy straight swap? Many thanks!

    Older panel steel radiator outputs?

Whilst Climapro RF left in Kitchen next to receiver, boiler didn't wrongly come on outside of timed period in weeks so there was never a communication failure. However, the moment Climapro RF moved back into Hallway, boiler would often come on at silly o'clock throughout the night. Rewired...

    Glow-worm Climapro Weather Compensation

Can I ask what the Climapro problem was which the software bugs caused? Also is it the wired or wireless model?

    Problem balancing a towel radiator

I have a problem balancing a towel radiator in our system in that I can't seem to get any temperature drop across the flow and return. It has a valve on each side but no matter what adjustment I make, I seem to only ever get the rad to be either completely off or scorching. Any advice...

Glow Worm Ultracom 38cxi central heating problem.

Hi hammerswinger. I'll leave it to the experts here to answer your question on a technical/product level as there's been times I would have ripped ours off the wall and thrown it away! However, I hasten to add that my opinion is tainted by the experience we had with the installer and...
