    Kitchen wiring

Don't buy cheap unseen products. I recently tried to fit some customer supplied sockets from a well known DIY shed and they were cr*p. The clamp screws were too narrow to grip wire properly and after taking twice the normal time to fit one I convinced the customer to take them back and use...

Would you mind if a client wouldn't pay till job complete?

With all due respect to BAS we sparks have to make a living. I have terms and conditions that require (for large jobs) a deposit to cover materials and final payment on on completion. I also reserve the the right to withold issue EIC and notification until funds have cleared my account. NB...

    The usual shed installation question

60A switch fuse would protect feed to shed as you drawing shows no CPD. I'd use a metal clad switch fuse as it'd be a good to terminate SWA, tails from Henley block grommeted . How long is SWA ? Do pets come within scope of livestock?

    Certification for consumer units

Both a PIR and EIC require forms 3 & 4 appended to them. When I carry out a CU change I complete these two forms before old board is removed. As I reconnect each cct to new CU I double check IR readings. Once new CU is energised and of course any remedial work has been completed and...

    Electricians forum

Don't like the idea of entry based on post count as this would just allow those that talk the most to enter. I do like the idea of a more technical forum where topics can be discussed in depth but do understand that entry criterion could be seen as elitist if it's based on qualifications...

Help please need some advice on CU

Could be redundant cooker cct But even if it is the current carrying capacity of the cable needs to be determined as induction hob and oven I guess will require more than 32A.

blade runner for cutting armoured cable

Here's my penny worth on SWA Measure off where you want to cut the outer armour. Run a pipe cutter around cable so it puts a deep score in the armour (deep enough to be able to break strands.) Slide off outer insulation to expose surplus armour & break off. And finally lightly score...

    Battery help

For a sailboat with inboard you ideally need twin batteries and a split charging system. One battery for starting and a domestic battery for lighting and instruments. You will severely reduce the life of either battery if not used for correct purpose. Incidently what sailboat do you...

RCD trips on 'no trip test'

What were the results of the full range of tests on the RCD as said before in isolation of any ccts. The Megger puts 15mA to earth on 'no trip' 3 lead test, so if for example if there was around 8mA of earth leakage on the RCD side of the board this would be sufficient to trip RCD
