Rainwater getting into garage via side wall

Thanks john, much appreciated as always. When you say single course brick walls does that mean they're only one brick deep?

Rainwater getting into garage via side wall

Sorry, dark outside at the moment so this is the only photo on file i could find - not sure if it's helpful or not. The problem part is on the right hand side and in front of the car.

Rainwater getting into garage via side wall

Hi, I'm hoping this is just a simple problem (are they ever!). It's been pretty wet and windy today and I noticed the following at the inside left wall when I went into my garage - I'm hoping the rain is just getting blown in under the metal (see pic 2) at the side of the garage...

Noisy toilet when flushed - like a foghorn

Flummoxed - a trip to b&q, got a fibre washer for ball valve seat, changed washer and still same problem. The only thing left is an o-ring but losing will to live here!

Noisy toilet when flushed - like a foghorn

Spoke too soon - when I flush the toilet there seems to be a drip from the big plastic nut that I had to unscrew to take the arm off the ball valve. Would this be due to the smaller black washer that you have to take off before you get to the little cone? Did a search on ebay and it came up...

Noisy toilet when flushed - like a foghorn

Hi, just a wee update in case anyone else has similar problem. Part arrived today from ebay (b&q was only 30 mm not 32 mm). Took couple of mins to fit it, turned water pressure back up via isolator and Bob's your uncle - no foghorn noise. Next problem was cistern filled up about an inch higher...

Noisy toilet when flushed - like a foghorn

Thanks John, yes I managed to unscrew it fine and I've seen the following on ebay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ballvalve-Diaphragm-Washer-for-Cistern-Float-Valve-1-25-32mm-/230779599629?pt=UK_DIY_Materials_Plumbing_MJ&hash=item35bb893b0d but also saw this kit...

Noisy toilet when flushed - like a foghorn

Ah me old mucker john! Great to hear from you again. When you say washer do you mean the 32mm solid one (which looks like a plug to me) or the one with a hole in the middle (like a typical washer)? I took it apart earlier and saw the 2 of them. Many thanks.

Noisy toilet when flushed - like a foghorn

Hi, I'm definitely no plumbing expert and for the past 18 mths my ensuite toilet has been making a loud foghorn type noise when flushed. I have a ball valve inlet. I googled it and someone suggested adjusting the isolater to reduce the water pressure which I have done and it does (touch wood)...

    Starling Nest

I don't think you can access it from the loft. I'll wait till October time once the birds have 'flown the nest' and put some wire mesh in (or sweet talk my poor Dad into it!). Thanks for your help (again!) :D

    Starling Nest

Thanks John, great advice as always. Is it a necessary job do you think or could I just leave it be? Should the mesh be metal or would material netting do? (I have some material netting that I use on the garden to stop the birds eating the veg). Any advice on how to fix it on...

    Starling Nest

For the past few years I have been able to hear a starling nest in my dormer roofline (see pics). They get in at the rear right hand side where there is an opening behind the wooden eave. I don't mind them being there if they aren't damaging the eave/wall but am not sure if they will be or not...
