Apologies if this is a stupid question, its my first time! When setting up a string line for the posts, should the string line be set in front of the post or behind the post? Does it make a difference? Also should the string line touch both corners and the face of the post?

@^woody^ the supplier had initially informed me the 6ft gravel boards had 4 steel rods in them. I've now been told this was a mistake and they have 3 Should I proceed ahead and still purchase given that I'll be using them as a retaining wall @^woody^

The ground is flat and will not slope towards the wall. If that's the case I'll go with just the polythene option and just backfill with soil

The ballast consists of sharp sand doesn't it? So i wouldn't need to add 3 parts sand would I? Would a jumbo bag of ballast be sufficient for 16 posts? How many bags of cement would I require?

The garden is on a rising slope and also had a lot of overgrown weeds and stumps i had to remove which is why the soil is no longer compacted, once I've levelled it out, will compacting it back with a whacker plate not be sufficient?
