T4 or T5 fluorescent link lights - confused!

Hi, We currently have some old T5 fluorescent lights under our kitchen units, fitted by a previous occupier. The tube lengths are non-standard, and replacement tubes cost ~£8-15 each each (depending on length) - when you can get them. I'm going to change the lighting under the units (and put...

    mini-digger hire

Thanks for all the replies, I know they can be dangerous. I own a chainsaw and a 30 foot ladder, both of which I have a sensible respect for. I'm still undecided as to whether to rent the mini-digger, or digger+man. This is a diy forum, and that's what I like to do - so long as I'm reasonably...

    mini-digger hire

Err... none! Yup! Hmm, dunno! I might sound flippant, but I'm well aware of the issues. In fact, since posting this I've found a few other posts. Opinion seems divided between "you'll figure it out in 10 mins" and "get a man with the digger - and make sure he has liability insurance!"...

    mini-digger hire

hi all. I'm considering hiring a mini-digger. Would plan to have it for a day, and dig foundations (and excavate for the concrete slab) for a ~3m x ~3m single story utility room. Could also use it for other things, like installing a land-drain and replacing my water main pipe. Anyway...

    Wood v Aluminium v PVC

All plastics are not affected by UV, but most are. uPVC is the same stuff as plastic drain-pipes and gutters, I've yet to see any that have cracked through weathering. Also, I've never seen anybody paint them. Andy

    Fire Pit

I know you''re sorted with this, but just to let you know that I've done exactly that! (in case someone else reads this thread) We've just pulled down a woven fence (like a larch-lap, but woven). I'd guess the fence was 15-20 years old, and had probably been painted with all sorts over the...

    Some postcrete questions (thermo?)

Quite funny really. The fence is a boundry fence between us and a neighbour, and they're paying half (the materials). Neighbours wanted wood for looks, but I wanted concrete for longevity. The concrete posts I ordered arrived, and are rough on one side. We (wife and I) discussed at length who...

    Some postcrete questions (thermo?)

Aha! someone with a simillar experience... Anybody got any thoughts about mixing the blue circle postcrete with another postcrete with aggregate? I sort of did this, but in hindsight I used far too much water. Is mixing postcretes asking for trouble? Andy

    Some postcrete questions (thermo?)

Thanks for that, bit of reassurance! I'm a little undecided about what to do on the next post, either water first or postcrete first. Will probably continue with the postcrete first (bit less water!), other than my concerns about the soft bit at the top - it seems to be the best way to work...

    Some postcrete questions (thermo?)

Hi all, I'm in the process of digging out some 30 year old 8' leylandii, removing an old wood fence and replacing it with larchlap panels and concrete posts. Back-breaking! 8' posts, 2' hole dug narrow and deep, then using postcrete. Postcrete has been going in dry (~1.5 bags per hole)...

d/g windows steamed - not the seal

Hi, Thanks for both your replies. Yup, no mystery... excessive moisture + not enough ventilation + cold surfaces = condensation Do we: hang up clothes to dry? yes. run the bathroom extractor fans? no bring wet coats into the house? yes open the trickle vents by the windows? no...

d/g windows steamed - not the seal

Hi all, '70s house, upvc d/g ~20 years old and steams up in the mornings. The condensation is on the inside (of the house), and not between the panes. This happens on quite a few of our windows. Don't think it's the seals, anybody any idea how to prevent this happening? Ta! Andy
