running lighting cable in plaster board ceiling unaccessible

It was mentioned above that a flase ceiling is an option. I have a similar issue in our kitchen. Under regulations how much void is required in the false ceiling for the cable?

Why the whistling and laughter kp? Do you not agree? The reason I ask is that i have asked a similar question (purpose of return flow gate valve elsehwere). If you have a different opionion to the above would be interested to hear. Tks.

    Immersion Heater

Just saw 'Rough Science' on BBC2. They were using a metal pencil sharpener as a means to prevent corrosion on a wire in a marine environment. Apparently they contain magnesium.

    Immersion Heater

Free champagne to the troops at Cheltenham when I complete my sparky course (just kidding, 43 and embalmed in what I do). The mass of water prevents creasing tip is one that would never appear in a DIY book but exactly what I was afraid of. Will add a touch of WD40 for good measure! Will...

    Immersion Heater

Thanks for the advice guys. Current is not protected by FCU's but by the boards MCB's. My belief is that thermos may not be working properly, although the surge which tripped everything this morning was the timer clicking in. We are in a hard water area and we use immersion to pre-heat...

    Immersion Heater

Looking for some [more] advice. I have had two heater elements blow in an emersion heater within three years. Is this an unusual phenomenon? (The tank/emersions were replaced three years ago.) Should the emersion be on a separate circuit, currently it is on a ring?

    Burying cables

Thanks for the Socio-Political comment everyone. I tihnk my best bet now is go chase up the wall through bathroom joists - observing Part P and all other building regs which I am now au fait with - and down to the single bl**dy socket my trouble wants on the other side of the kitchen. As...

    Burying cables

I'd have to chase up a wall into the ceiling void through four joists and down another wall. The room above is a fully tiled bathroom. As long as there are no regs against it I'll take out a cold chisel and bury it under the floor (putting down some limestone tiling as weel). Is there a min...

    Gate valve

Thanks Jas, Assume this valve should be fully open' however, when draining/re-filling the system. Also by restricting the flow through the coil is this similar to balancing central heating?

    Gate valve

Don't thinks it's a by-pass as the pipe on which the GV sits goes directly back to the boiler from the HW tank

    Gate valve

Thanks SL, but the gate valve is not on the CH circuit but the HW, bottom pipe coming out of the emersion tank? AOI?

    Burying cables

Is it allowable to bury electric cables into a concrete floor? Is there a minimum depth requirement - if so how much Is any other protection required (iron/copper/steel conduit)? Tks

    Gate valve

There is a gate valve on our hot water heating system - 22m - fitted on the return run of the HW heating pipe. Should this valve be fully open? Plumber who 'installed' our system had this barely open.

    Rad Valve

I recently put an angled valve on a radiator which had a drain cock attached to it. Nifty Idea I thought as you could drain either the rad it was on or the whole system if required. Does anyone know if a similar straight valve is manufactured and who by? Thanks

    Push button flush toilet

Ours is a Roca - same as above - push down one button and pull up the other - large plastic Phillips screw

    Draining the system

Work is moving some pipes for a bathroom radiator, but I also believe the system needs a flush. Any ideas?
