    Pump or just capacitor?

One last thing if you would be so kind :) Anyone ever used HSS (Heating Spares Specialists http://www.hssspares.co.uk) for parts? They seem to be the cheapest I can find for a new pump. Any other recommendations also welcome.

    Pump or just capacitor?

OK, pump is off again - and yes there is some moisture in the pump wiring box. It was definitely bone dry when I last refitted it and there is no sign of any moisture external to the pump, so I can only think it has made its way up from the pump via the connector between pump and box. The...

    Pump or just capacitor?

Yes, I disconnected the pump lead connector from the board for those resistance tests above. Yesterday when I had the pump on the coffee table the resistance from L->N was ~200 Ohms at the terminals in the box on the pump. I didn't check resistance to earth though, just L->N to make sure it...

    Pump or just capacitor?

AARGH! I spoke too soon. After about 30 mins running fine on CH the whole boiler went dead. Turned out the fuse at F1 had blown on the wiring board (behind lower door). So I followed the diagnostics in the back of the service manual, replaced the fuse, then on demand for heat the divertor did...

    Pump or just capacitor?

A quick update. Put the new capacitor in and the pump starts right up fine and is nigh on impossible to stop from turning with the "finger test". Reinstalled to boiler, bled everything of air and appears all is well, central heating is toastily up to temp and warming the house nicely as I type...

    Pump or just capacitor?

Thanks. This is the problem when you learn something at school and then never use it again for nigh on 30 years, it tends to fall out of memory :D

    Pump or just capacitor?

I have plenty of DC transformers knocking around, but nothing that outputs AC. Even using lower voltages, wouldn't the capacitor be capable of delivering a fairly nasty jolt once charged up?

Gas pipe under concrete floor in kitchen

I know that and I appreciate the time you guys put in answering inexperienced daft questions from the likes of me :) I like to think I know just enough to know that I really don't know a great deal at all - which makes me proceed with caution and ask when in doubt! I also stay well away from...

    Pump or just capacitor?

For the sake of a short walk and £3 for a new capacitor I think I'll avoid messing around with live mains voltage. As you say, one clumsy mistake could see me 6ft under - I'd rather sacrifice the £3 than take the risk, no matter how small.

    Pump or just capacitor?

It seems my local Maplins has suitable replacement capacitors in stock (N39KG) for a touch over £3, so I'll pick one up in the morning, drop it in the pump and test it out. :)

    Pump or just capacitor?

My multimeter doesn't have the facility for testing capacitance. Yes the pump will run if I spin the rotor manually, although this only works with the pump head off, trying to do this with the pump mounted using a screwdriver in the end of the rotor doesn't achieve anything. Thanks to Terry...

Gas pipe under concrete floor in kitchen

I'm confused. The original question was: "Hi, can a gas pipe be laid in a channel in concrete floor and then concreted over? You replied: "Yes, but surely the RGI doing the pipe has advised you of what he wants?" I replied with a couple of links and some green crusty pipe experience in...

    Pump or just capacitor?

Thanks for the reply. I thought the pump had probably had it. Are the pump heads or vaillant pump assemblies on these interchangeable with anything else? I'm getting lost looking for replacement pumps online as the part numbers don't seem to match up. Some sites list the 160977 pump as the...

Gas pipe under concrete floor in kitchen

Just be a little careful what concrete mix you use, some can be acidic and eat away the copper pipe over time. Refs (copper and concrete construction respectively): http://www.copper.org/applications/plumbing/techcorner/problem_embedding_copper_concrete.html...

    Pump or just capacitor?

Good to see some of the same faces knocking around on here - hopefully I can tease some knowledge out of their experienced heads :) I have a Vaillant turboMAX Plus 837E combi (VUW GB362/1-5 R3) (GC# 47-044-028) that is playing up. On drawing hot water, the temperature on the boiler display...

    (Re)Hang Basin On Stud Wall

Yep it was OK before with just silicone - just seems a little unsafe should someone choose to lean on it heavily or whatever. Those brackets look useful but with a Minimum Cavity Depth required of 140mm to install I don't think they'd fit. I'll drill a little pilot hole and see how deep the...

    (Re)Hang Basin On Stud Wall

Hi, A tale of woe and a plea for help :) My basin waste started leaking between the chrome waste fitting and basin. No problem thought I, just pull it out, reseal and refit the waste. Couldn't get enough access with the pedestal in place so pulled that out the way. This is when the DIY...

    Bosch Classixx Dishwasher Went POP

Thanks again to zipper and Leccy758. New interference suppressor arrived today, fitted, reassembled and all working well. Took a little time last night to get the other side panel off and thoroughly cleaned / vacuumed out all the dust from the gubbins at the bottom - not that bad really...

Thanks a lot to both of you. It's sloshing away happily to itself right now and part is on order 8)

    Bosch Classixx Dishwasher Went POP

That makes sense, it didn't offer any resistance to being pulled out so didn't think it was attached. In order to run it up without the suppressor do I need to do anything with the connections it attachs too? e.g. jumper them together I certainly wouldn't keep it like that, I know my...
