    Fan Lube

I left the dark side about 4 years ago, but the fan lube was being taken from us because it was a danger to the environment. Apparently. We were issued with a replacement called ac90, which was basically the same as wd40 but cheaper. Of course it was also useless as a fan lubricant because it...

    Old toilet design

The Feuars Arms pub in Kirkcaldy has a 19th century glass cistern with lead sparge pipes. Beautiful workmanship. Many moons ago, as plumbing apprentices we were asked to leave the establishment. The landlord didn't believe that we were admiring the plumbing. . . :)

Cheapest CPA1 in the Glasga area??

A few guys at ma work went to C&G for testing and purging before Dunfermline college started doing industrial and commercial. They said the training was fine, but one of the trainers was a wee bit of a d1ck :? Theres one everywhere I suppose.

3 port valve (DM 5651 Actuator) Sunvic. 8 years of confusion

Just had a quick scan through this post and thought I'd point out that your system might not have been wired up incorrectly at all. Many older three port valves were of the diverter type i.e they could allow hot water, or heating but not both at the same time. For heating and hot water...

    Condensate Joys.

Pretty sure that most boilers these days include a syphonic trap. Not all of them mind, so I suppose a boiler which doesn't could have one fitted near to the appliance as a wee precaution.

Further Boiler Problem - Ideal Minimiser

When I used to work for them, the focus was not on the volume of jobs but on first time completion rates. If you were stuck on a job, you were expected to contact the office to allow the planners to alter their allocation of jobs. I was never a fan of the minimiser and I have to say I'm glad...

Back Boiler Pilot Light Gone Out

Hughs' advise about the thermocouple is sound, but I dont think that you'll find a grey button on your gas valve. From memory, the glow worm 45 had a s.i.t. gas valve. To light this you need to turn the black knob to the pilot position, then depress it and press the igniter. (keeping the knob...

Do I need to change the whole heating system?

Johnson and Starley are a good firm to deal with. They have a department who will advise you on which units can directly replace your old one. As to the BG guys never having worked on warm air, I can only say that in my area there are a lot of units both old and new, so there are plenty to work...

    asbestos flue

Fife council allows householders to dispose of asbestos at some of thei depots. I know this because I just had to hire a van to drop off the asbestos flue from my Ma and Dads old warm air unit to the dump at Ladybank. The only stipulation from them is that any asbestos waste should be wrapped up.

    Breakdown cover.

Tam Grahams lot have a bit of a poor reputation for their breakdown and service work. I've been at the back of a couple of their guys to sort jobs which have been abandoned (insurance work). I believe that the majority of their work is in new build schemes, mostly in Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy...

glowworm ultimate 50 FF . sound repair ??

It would have been AC90 the guy used. Pretty much the same as WD but presumably cheaper as thats what we used to be issued with. Before that we had 'fan lube' (no lewd comments please :P) It was withdrawn because apparently it was dangerous to wildlife! Shame because it was great stuff...

    Breakdown cover.

You certainly couldn't make it up Jock. The guy from Tam Graham who turned the boiler on has left himself wide open to trouble though. If he knowingly turned a boiler on which is at risk,or was incompetent enough not to notice it was at risk he could be R.I.D.D.O.R. reported. Make that SHOULD be...

    Do Gas Regs apply retrospectively?

Agreed Razor. The distance from floor covering to top of burner is a minimum of 225mm ( or whatever the manufacturer specifies) If no signs of damage then the installation is ncs. If there are signs of heat damage, at risk and if in flames, it is immediately dangerous. Just noticed yer in the...

    Boiler overrun?

The Hamworthy Variheat has a cast iron heat exchanger. Allegedly it is 93.7% efficient. Mind you, it has problems with burners perforating and fans dying and the condensate sump choking and sensors failing...
