    3/4 Drive Breaker Bar

I finally got round to starting this job and I'm pleased to report my new Halfords bar plus scaffold tube were easily up to the task. Thanks Burnerman... Anyway, a couple of other things have cropped up that I wonder if anyone has come across. First, the Peugeot gear select cable system...

    Auction Prices

For anyone interested these vans were all pretty shabby bodywise, especially all the drivers doors bent up at the hinge end. Viewings didn't allow to even start them up before sale, never mind drive them. And they changed hands for between £1000 and £2200. PLUS 20% Vat. Silly money. Needless to...

Indeed. The land of no national speed limit! Although I think commercials are not supposed to exceed 50. :D

    Auction Prices

Thanks gents, pretty much echoed my advice really. (I't's a mate who wanted opinions) Some of them are pretty low mileage, and I'd be confident that at least the oil had been changed on schedule-ish. Still a gamble though.

    Auction Prices

Probably the wrong forum for this but I wonder if anyone has an opinion on what would be a fair price to pick up one of the Transit Connects listed here: http://www.chrystalsauctions.com/catalogue1.php?sale=20130228s Bearing in mind they can't be road tested or even viewed prior to the...

Kitchen ceiling repair and down lights

On a similar theme I noticed these in my local shed the other day. http://www.british-gypsum.com/products/plasterboard___accessories/gyproc_accessories/gyproc_plasterboard_patches.aspx A bit pricey I thought, but they look like they should work alright, although I didn't get any.

    Screw gun?

I've never seen them in with the screws, I've only ever got the standard Phillips No 2. I'll have to get some to try I think, I suppose they're cheap enough.

    Screw gun?

On a similar theme has anyone used one of these, and are they any good? http://www.bricky.com/building-tools/drywall-screw-bit.html#product-info The way I see it they must just reach the correct depth and then start spinning around the screw head. Which seems a bit clumsy to me and must...

    Noises from the wall....

Is your neighbour a sadomasochist? He must be up to something next door surely?

Repairing damaged walls / skirting removal

Are you planning on doing without skirt altogether? That would make the wall vulnerable to damage from eg vacuum cleaner use. I would do it as your list, minus the sanding, leave a smaller gap to the floor and fit a shorter skirt. Or dot and dab strips of PB into the gap level with existing...

Ford Fiesta 1.3 1995 Engine Mountings Replacements

I've done a couple of these on 1.25 Zetecs which is presumably what you've got. Pretty straightforward with a trolley jack as I recall.

    3/4 Drive Breaker Bar

Thanks gents - last time I used the same 3/4 41mm socket, with a 3/4 to 1/2 reducer and shattered the knuckle on the breaker bar. I'll be using all 3/4 this time and have ordered the bar recommended by Burnerman. Appreciate your advice.

    3/4 Drive Breaker Bar

I need to crack a hub nut on my Peugeot Boxer in order to replace the clutch. It's the 41mm nut, and having experienced the other side when I did the cv joint I know it's extremely tight. 250-300lbs/ft according to the manual. I trashed a 1/2 drive bar last time, and ended up getting it cracked...

    Wiring my House

Here's some widely available 16mm trunking. http://www.screwfix.com/p/tower-self-adhesive-mini-trunking-25mm-x-16mm-x-3m-60m-pack-of-20/96504 Or you could just bury the cables directly into the wall.

    Replacing shower cubicle and....oh my!

I'd personally batten out with insulation between battens, and then fix hardie board. If you take really good care with your battening it makes the tiling a doddle.

    Woodchip

Are you sure he's a plasterer? It's not ordinarily a good idea. That said, I skimmed over a very small area of wood chip in a house I own which seemed to have been stuck to the wall with superglue. It was all but impossible to get it off, and is still sound. But it was a small strip - about...

    Damp block?

It looks alright to me - should just paint over all right if it's not actually damp. Maybe it's condensation forming from the roomside on the coldest part of the wall. However, you shouldn't bury copper piping directly in sand/cement or gypsum plaster. It reacts and leads to leaks. Although I'm...

You're being too kind there. That kitchen worktop is about as bad a job as I've ever seen.

    Renault Scenic 2000 1.6 16 Valve Petrol

Yeah, I realise the head's got to come off. I'll let everyone know what that reveals, although it won't be for a few weeks. I'd bet that the plug threads are fine by the way the compression tester and plugs screwed in, even though they are too deeply recessed to see anything. The car's...

    Renault Scenic 2000 1.6 16 Valve Petrol

Fair enough - it was the presence of oil rather than the shards that made me suspect the oil ring. Am I wrong in thinking that if a valve had bent it wouldn't fully close, and this might lead to a clattering as the follower hit it? I'm not hearing any unusual sounds while running the engine. I...
