    Supporting a car.....

The last time I changed the discs and pads on my 02 Fiesta I jacket the car up and them put the wheel under the sump and lowered the car down onto it. I put bricks under the wheel first and was careful to make sure the sump sat flush on the wheel. I was planning to use the same method to change...

    Stripped seized bold head :(

Well in the end I opted for grinding off the bold head. Then I still had to get the bolt out of the bracket which was a pita! I had to use the angle grinder to make grind a flat surface to either side of the bolt so I could get a wrench around it. Eventually I got it out. Unfortunately I ground...

    Stripped seized bold head :(

God welding a nut on would get it off so easy! :D. first thing I thought...... unfortunately iv never welded anything in my life :(. I'm not sure Id be able to get at it with drill as room might be a bit tight. Also I don't know if it trust myself to get it perfectly straight and might mess...

    Stripped seized bold head :(

I couldn't get an adjustable spanner on it before it was rounded unfortunately. 13mm is a small fiddly size in that respect :(. I thought about filing all the sides down to smaller socket size perhaps but that would take to long and be so cumbersome to achieve that it wouldnt be worth it when...

    Stripped seized bold head :(

Another question! The scrap yard guy say's that if he doesn't if he doesn't have the exact bolt from a mark 5 fiesta he can get me one from another ford from a calliper bracket. Would this be OK?

    Stripped seized bold head :(

In case I don't go down the angle grinder route - a nut splitter seems a much cheaper option than the Irwin bolt removers. Are these any good?

    Stripped seized bold head :(

Hi mate thanks for the reply. What did the damage was a hexagonal one. I think it was actually 1/2 imperial. The socket wasn't the best quality - something I didn't realise - and it actually split around its sides! So I bought a good quality 13mm which has the serrations you mentioned. This took...

    Stripped seized bold head :(

Hi mate I followed this guide its for a slightly older car but its not much different: http://www.fiestaguides.co.uk/content/front_brakes.html Here's what it says about it: I'm pretty sure the 17mm bolts that refers to are the same as on mine but mine are 13mm.

    Stripped seized bold head :(

I was changing the brake discs but I have made a mess of one of the bolts holding on the anchor plate to the hub. Its basically rounded off completely. I have been tapping it with a hammer and bolster trying to tease it off but dont want to damage anything so Iv just left it alone for tonight...

    Disc and pad replacement?

Is a breaker bar necessary for this job? Also can it be done on car jack or will it need to be on stands or a trolley jack?

    Disc and pad replacement?

Ok Iv got that I think. So just loosely open the lid to the brake fluid reservoir to let excess fluid escape when I push back the piston and then close it off again when Im done? Think Im ready to have a go at this now :) Cheers!

    Disc and pad replacement?

I don't understand this sorry :s. Would you mind elaborating? I appreciate the help! If there is a vent hole in the cap how come the fluid doesnt escape from it when you compress the brakes?

    Disc and pad replacement?

So when pushing it back the brake fluid reservoir lid should be off?

    Disc and pad replacement?

Ok thanks for the help! Another quick couple of question.... The last thing Im worried about is resetting the calliper pistons to there original position. Iv seen this done with a special tool but don't have anything. Can it be done with thumbs and something flat to get some leverage? I'm...

    Disc and pad replacement?

I need pads and discs on my 02 plate mk5 Fiesta. I am confident to replace the pads as Iv seen it done and I am fairly handy with socket set. How difficult would it be to replace the discs as well? Would I have to let fluid out of the system or can it be done without touching the fluid? id...

    Fiesta heating problem

No need to replace the control valve right away. The fix I have in place allows heat into the cabin. I will replace the control valve soon but I needed the car today and it mists up without the heater. Anyway its sorted now. Basically I just ran the engine with the cap off the water...

    Fiesta heating problem

Hi. Hope someone can help me. I bypassed the heater control valve on my MK5 Fiesta by using 2 lengths of copper pipe in its place. This was because I had no heat in the cabin and the control valve is the most common fault. I did this this the engine switched off. I forgot to clamp the...
