Veritas 8 - Repair, Replace or Upgrade

Well, all wired in. Walk test done, and all sensors working as expected. Siren wired in and working too. Let just hope it never breaks again... How long does these battery usually last? I read from somewhere that they don't last as long in a warm/hot environment such as the water tank...

Veritas 8 - Repair, Replace or Upgrade

Thanks for all the answers so far. I can understand the test sequence you want me to do chaindaisy. I don't think I will be connecting the siren until last however, as I am already rather unpopular with the neighbours since the powercut at 2am a couple of weeks ago (as described in the...

Actually 125mA is correct. 240V x 0.125A = 30W. Highest rated fuse on PCB is 1.6A at12V which is 19.2W. So 125mA fuse should be adequate... Right? Adrian

Veritas 8 - Repair, Replace or Upgrade

No. Definitely 125mA. I'll stick with 1.6A I think as I agree it doesn't make sense to have the pre transformer fuse lower than the highest rated fuse on the PCB. Adrian

Veritas 8 - Repair, Replace or Upgrade

Actually reading the manual carefully again it does say that the fuse should be 125mA, so I was right (lucky last time). Page 27 in you have the manual. I'll have to switch back to 125mA and retest... Adrian

Thanks Europlex. I've got the manual as well but the fuse in question is the one pre-transformer. I'm using 1.6A at the moment . Adrian

Veritas 8 - Repair, Replace or Upgrade

Thanks for the advice Europlex, Bernardgreen and chaindaisy. I have a downloaded copy of the manual and I can't seem to find the fuse rating for that particular fuse. There are 5 fuses on the PCB and the one for PSU is 1.5Amp, so I shouldn't really go wrong using the same. If anything it should...

Veritas 8 - Repair, Replace or Upgrade

Thanks again for your help chaindaisy. I haven't got round to reconnecting the pirs yet. I'll order the battery tonight and do the PIRs "testing/connecting" tomorrow. What do you mean by linked? Disconnected from sensors? At the moment I only have the keypad and internal buzzer connected...

Veritas 8 - Repair, Replace or Upgrade

Once again thank you chaindaisy and eurplex for the help so far. I am "soak testing" the panel as you suggested. All wires labelled and disconnected. "Annoyingly" the alarm is working fine. I think I know why the fuse blew the second time... I put a wrong fuse in. 125mA is never enough to...

Veritas 8 - Repair, Replace or Upgrade

Hi chaindaisy, I've pretty much set on getting another the panel. I will still need to disconnect all the sensors and label the wires prior to that so I might just give the panel a run through. I have a limited supply of fuse (whatever spare one was in the panel at the time, maybe 3 left) so...

Veritas 8 - Repair, Replace or Upgrade

Thanks for the replies and thanks chaindaisy for the detailed analysis. I took the PCB off the panel and found one transistor (or what looks like a transistor) that looked burnt (scorched marks on the writing) and dodgy-looking soldering. Not sure which part of the circuit it's responsible...

Veritas 8 - Repair, Replace or Upgrade

Battery changed about a year ago. It solved the problem at the time. I thought the unit will keep it charged... Anyway can't see how a flat battery will cause the fuse to blow. Adrian

Veritas 8 - Repair, Replace or Upgrade

Prior to the blown fuse, the siren went off when there is a powercut (alarm wasn't armed), and the keypad was dead. ie the battery was dead. When the power came back it was ok but the LED was flashing indicating dead battery. Didn't have a chance to order a new one. Then about 4 days after that...

Actually it's cheaper at Alert Electrical. Just found out that the keypad cable have 6 core rather than 4. Is Honeywell Mini G4 better than Veritas Excel? Adrian

Veritas 8 - Repair, Replace or Upgrade

I have had a look at the Veritas Excel and it looks ok. I was keen on getting a "more well known" brand like Honeywell but then what do I know about intruder alarms! Also seen the Scantronic (I have no idea who they are) 9651 with a LCD panel which cost similar amount of cash. I am currently...

Veritas 8 - Repair, Replace or Upgrade

Thanks for the replies so far. The fuse (pre-transformer) blew over a few minutes rather than immediately. Also the alarm goes off when there's a power cut, the last time which even the keypad won't light up. I think there's something wrong with the alarm (maybe the PCB) itself, which I...

Veritas 8 - Repair, Replace or Upgrade

Hi all, I'm not an expert in alarm system and I inherited the above in the house we bought 2 years ago. It has been mostly problem free until recently. It tends to set itself off when there's a power cut, and when it started beeping I swapped the battery. Still goes off in power cut but at...

    Shower wall recessed storage

I guess I don't quite mean that. Maybe it should read I'm a control freak and I like to know what he is doing and why he's doing it that way. Afterall I'm spending almost 5k on the room, I want it done properly and make sure it will last. Googling the subject a bit more, it seems that's...

PIR in shower room - any experience?

I guess that's my questions really. How would the steam from the shower affect the performance of the PIR? It's a pretty small room (1.7m x 2.3m) anyway so in theory it will detect small movement. Adrian
