Could do with a bit of advice if poss. Our house has a boiler and hot water tank. Heating was fitted after the house was built, by the council. The heating pipework upstairs is all under the floor boards, but downstairs they have added a seperate drop down for each rad and run the pipes...

    Showerwall any good?

No information from me, except im planning on using them too. Im planning on using them to do the bottom half of the walls and then doing the top half in white formica. Sort of going for the look of a half tiled room, but all in waterproof panels.

can i fit a mixer shower?

Not by much. Maybe i can get pressure up to 0.2 bar. Mira seem to do showers which work on all pressures down to 0.1 bar so maybe its do-able.

can i fit a mixer shower?

Ive been reading some more, seems whats important is the height of the tank outlet to the shower head, each meter being 0.1 bar. If thats true, we could achieve 0.1 - 0.15 bar, no more. It also seems you need to take the cold feed from the tank too, not from the mains. So we'd need a...

    Vents in upstairs walls

Ok, but why. Whats their purpose, and what will/might happen if i do? Bathroom vent can go as ill fit an extractor, so then its just the bedroom ones.

    Supporting loft boards

Im going to do our loft insulation. At the moment we have 75mm of insulation between 80mm joists. Im going to add another 200mm of insulation and want to board the 2 main sections of loft for some general storage. Do i really need to add more joists running across the old ones to support...

    Vents in upstairs walls

All 4 of the upstairs rooms in our 1950's built house have those ugly vent bricks high up on the walls. There is an air brick oposite on the outside skin of the wall. There is no cavity insulation and at the moment, single glazed UPVC windows. These will probably be changed for double...

can i fit a mixer shower?

we need to replace our electric shower and idealy we'd like a mixer shower. I have been reading and it seems the success of these depends on your water pressure. How can i measure it? Is there any other deciding factors? We have a seperate boiler and hot water cylinder. All i know...

Best way to use silicon sealer

Dont use a wet finger. All that does is stop the silicone sticking to your finger. If it doesnt, where else will it go? All over whatever your putting the silicone on. Also, silicone doesnt stick to water so if you have left damp on the work you cant touch up very easily. Apply a small...

    Another loft light wiring question

yes, tidying the circuit sounds a good idea. We have only a little insulation up there. I want the lights so i can clean out all teh cobwebs and do the insulation properly. Once lit ill remove all insulation, take out the old rubber cables and tidy the lighting cables. If there not long...

    Another loft light wiring question

Just double checked in the loft, removed some stuff, and i was wrong. live, neutral and earth to junction box. Neutral of to nearest rose, then of to next, then next etc. 5 lives from JB, one to each switch, then live back up from each switch to the rose. Makes sense now, none of the...

    Another loft light wiring question

Seeing your replies has made me realise i didnt write my post very well. There is twin+earth to the junction box, then 5 live+earth leave it, each one goes to each of the 5 upstars ceiling roses. There is one neutral+earth from the junction box that goes to the nearest ceiling rose...

    Another loft light wiring question

I need to add 2 lights to my loft, one switch. I had already looked at the wiring diagrams sticky and just went into the loft to see what things up there are like. Messy is the answer. The origional rubber wiring has been replaced, its still in place though. None of the new wiring is...

    Seriously stupid wall mounting question.

I think we may end up getting the TV first after all. We have been offered a plasma, but with no internal tuner. Thats fine as we have a freeview recorder. That and DVD's are all we'll ever use. No need for any extra cables, or future upgrade ability, i have 0 interest in TV and watch...

    Seriously stupid wall mounting question.

Good call on the connection plate, Ill do that. Just need to know where to mount them now. I guess the best place for the sockets would be above the bracket, less chance of seeing them. If i at least work out what size TV i want and exactly where abouts on the wall, i can put the sockets...

    Damp membrane help please.

Been checking levels and i may need to go higher before the damp course, 5.5 blocks above floor so 6 blocks from membrane to dpc. I figure to make things easier can i just lay the under floor membrane 1-2 foot up the wall, then run the piece up the wall seperate and tape it to the floor...

    Damp membrane help please.

Nice idea, but would mean taking down the wall ive already built. Im not super convinced about coating either, any movement in the walls, cracks etc, and it will be broken. Getting it in all the little nooks on the concrete blocks may also be tricky. Maybe ill have to stick to what i was...
