    Electric shock treatment

Good God From someone getting a shock from a sink to re invemting the 'Laws of Physics' I find this thread very entertaining. Even to the point of considering digging my 35yr old college notes out to make sure I didn't miss something. To quote a song "Captain you canna change the law of...

I take it smoke is a bad thing?

It's always a good idea to flatten off multi core cables with pliers before inserting in MCB/RCD

I take it smoke is a bad thing?

AFAIK there recommended torque setting for fixing screws on MCBs. Having said that I've seen CUs where most or some clamp screws could be tightened at least on whole turn particularly on multi core terminations.

    Wiring Garage and Shed

Good idea I do a lot of such jobs but I have to be satisfied that the customer who offers to do heavy labour work is capable as BAS said the installer is responsible for the design, construction, inspection and testing and signs an installation cert to that effect. If you have no problem...

    bringing armoured cable into building

What's maximum run of feed to garage? Have you calculated volt drop? 10mm T&E would be better for the 14m run to the SWA as csa of cpc will match that of SWA. If you're exporting earth then you a low Z as possible. I assume SWA/T&E joint will accessible and not under floorboards.

    bringing armoured cable into building

My peferred method is through the wall with the SWA terminate in a metal KO box butted up to CU and feed inner cores through directly into CU. Unless its a metal clad CU where you terminate SWA - which is rare in domestic premises. Has the garage got it's own CU if so I'd use MCB to feed...

    Quoted for a rewire

Is the house going to be occupied during the work as this will extend the completion time. The price seems reasonable but like all big jobs you should get 3 quotes.

    Fuse Box Replacement

I must be an exception as well because I always fit good quality kit for the same reason as TTC. TBH the better quality accessories and CU are easier and quicker to fit thus the higher priced materials are offset against less labour costs. As for Part P since it came in I am getting more...

New kitchen wiring but no RCD

Norv I'd reserve judgement until you've seen the installation. One option I've used where customer had spent their 10k budget on new kitchen and didn't want to spend the extra few hundred on a new CU, was to put in a seperate 3 way CU with RCD and breaker to supply ring cct.
