    The circuit may have shorted/had a surge current when it happened so you'll have to check all the joint boxes / ceiling roses upstairs. They'll probably be some in the loft somewhere. Have you got a head torch you could use?

    You need to know your stuff and be able to calculate R1 R2 Zs Ze given resistance values and things like that you need to show the examiner that you can test SAFELY during the practicals. You don't need to know the regs inside out but really what's appropriate to Inspecting and Testing - GN3...

    sounds like they are either fused spur outlets. If you turn the power off and open up the boxes there should be a load and supply side inside. You may have to remove the plugs on your appliances and 2hard wire" them in but before doing that are they under guarantee?

    Scott, check all the appliances you had plugged in at the time for loose wiring or blacking/overheating inside the plugs first. The next step would be to check each socket for similar - loose connections or burning/charing/overheating. The main circuit breaker will need to be removed/turned...

    I doubt the ceiling light switch you have is double pole. I think you'll find you need to fit a triple pole fused switched spur - see next post
