    drivers for internet connection

how old is this laptop compared with the other (working properly one) I had a similar problem with my wifes when we switched to virgin, managed to fix it (after a year or trying) by forcing the wi-fi to slow down and changing to WPA (rather than the WPA/WPA2 option) on the router, fingers...

    Water under suspended wooden floor

depending on your budget, a heat recovery unit may be a solution here, it will pump the heat back into your house, but at the same time ventilate/remove the damp air. I know manrose make them, there could be others too.

Boxing in Fuse Box / Mains Switch

I'd fasten whatever you use to box it in to the wall with pin hinges. or that way no tools are needed top remove it from the wall for better access. that way you can keep the cupboard small without impeding future maintenance.

    Plug-in car heaters

chocolate teapot, wiremesh watering can, tit on a fish, pick your anaology. I bought 2 or 3 when the matrix in my old motor went, absoloutly pointless, the best I got, with the best one agains the screen was a hand sized hole to see through and that was after 8miles. The better option was...

LED Downlighters to replace LV Halogen

the older type of transformer doesnt have a stable output voltage, so can easily cook an MR16 (12V) LED unit. The newer type of inverter gives a stable output voltage, but needs a minimum load (20W in the case of most of the smaller ones) The LED units usually need a driver, adding another...

    Intermittently tripping RCD

even if its not spare, there is a spare (as in unoccupied) space on the non RCD side there, so you could fit another MCB. (then it would be full)

12v halogen kitchen lights not working properly ?

7W is supposed to be around a 50W equivalent, but be aware most of these are longer than the normal 50W lamps, so may not fit your fitting (thats why we don't stock them) the 5.4W LEDs are about a 35W, and the 4W about a 20W, these are also slightly longer than notral lamps, but still fit the...

    Gas central heating standby

By the virtue that its a digital programmer, I would say there is a possibility. Depending on your boiler, it may too be at risk, the voltage from cheap gennys varies quite a bit, and can dip/spike when the genny is put under load. Does the power go out often enough to warrent this? I...

Water heater for animal - outside

personally, I would suggest that these may/may not work anyway, my chucks knock their water around quite a bit. simpler way, larger water container, like a shallow builders bucket, fill that with water and put a ball in the top that will float (ball pool balls work well for chickens), worked...

sk+ with magic eye and ver8 remote

I would suggest that that is guff... The code programmes the remote to the TV itself, not via the box, in a similar way that universal remotes do. my sky remote will still do the volume for my downstairs TV, despite the fact the box is not upstairs, and not connected to that TV in any way at all.

    Multi 16 amp distribution board

http://www.rubberbox.co.uk/on-the-shelf/index.php last time I looked at this type of thing, although I can safely make them up, test etc the parts alone at trade price were more expensive than buying a ready made box.

    New hard drive

what version of windows are you running? 7 (and I think vista) have an imaging utility built in, works fine for me (not as good for storing a recovery image, it doesn't seem to compress)

    Car tax

seems to depend on who is on the desk, I have done it twice, (tax expires within a couple of days of insurance) once not an eyelid blinked, second, a bit of umming an erring, then let me have it because its technically insured at that point. That said, the new rules might get you, if the DVLA...

if the instructions say yea shall use 1.5, then 1.5 yea must use. manufacturers instructions must be followed regardless of weather lower specs would be suitable on paper.

    Switch live PIR

are you sure? all PIR lights I have seen override the pir by switching off then in within (usually) 3 seconds, to reset to normal detection, switch off for at lease 30 seconds then on again. The light will come back on when you switch it back on initially, but will go out after the normal...

Unexpected way to solve TV/Freeview reception problem

how many TVs does your splitter feed? if its just a couple, you may be ok with a resistive splitter, resistive is better if there are unequal cable lengths feeding the TVs. If its more than this, you may need a amp with an adjustable output, these are easy to come by with an output from +1dB...
