Interestingly, well over 50% of all screwed connections I check are loose. I'm always tightening things up on every job I do (but not too tight). However, I've been surprised at how little tightness is sometimes necessary to allow an electrical connection to function. For low power devices...

If you're using 4mm² T&E, why not stick it on a 30/32A breaker? If 20A is plenty for the foreseeable future, then just run the radial in 2.5mm²: it's a lot easier to work with :D

Are they just regular crimps? I have recently used some 'heat-shrink butt crimps' and they're brilliant: very strong mechanically and sound electrically. They look professional, too, more so than just plain crimps.

If I may come in here, gents (you guys may want a break from this one!): To the OP, can you tell us what exactly the power rating for each item is? I imagine the hob will be about 6kW, therefore drawing around 25A max. The oven, around 2kW, drawing about 8A. That would be a total of 33A...
