    Tiling to floor

Currently doing a bathroom. Looking to tile right down to floor level. New laminate floor going in. What's the best way to tile down to floor level, and finish the wee gap where tiles meet laminate, given that floor needs to be "held down" at edges? Looking for as neat and clean meeting of the...

    Stripping woodwork - Banisters

I had the same thing on a fabulous old Victorian banister handrail - lovely old beech, it was. What worked for me was Nitromors worked in with steel wool, left to soak in, then scraped - or should I say shaved - off with a very sharp Stanley blade held at 90 degrees to the wood, removing a fine...

    Tiling over hardboard

Took out scabby old shower in recess. Originally had formica panelling. When took these off, found 1 side was sheeted in hardboard, 1 side in plasterboard, and 1 in ply!! Original job by Bodgitt and Leggitt, I think.

    Previewing Paint Colours?

Valtti do one that I have used - costs a few euros, but piece of p!ss to use. Only does their own colour range though, but good to give you an idea of what different colours might look like: http://www.tikkurila.com/index.jsp?cid=colourplanner&hid=1.1.1.3

    Tiling over hardboard

Is 3mm hardboard a suitable material for sheeting out a shower prior to tiling, or would I be best to remove and resheet with plywood before tiling?

    Bird in roof

Put a cat in the roof? Maybe not - I once had a cat end up in the bottom of a cavity wall while redoing an upstairs bathroom. Took power-tools to get the wee fecher out.

    Exterior timber paints

I'm looking to replace old, ugly, uPVC exterior cladding with quality timber. I'm looking for flat, opaque colour finish. Have previously used Valtii opaque paint on exterior timber - very, very good. Supplier is offering Olympic PPG Acrylic paint finish - my questions are 1> is acrylic...

    Timber vs uPVC?

Apologies if this question has been posted again (and again, and again!), but life's too short to trawl through all 19 pages of forum  We lost some fascia/bargeboard in the Hogmanay storm, and what came down was rotten plywood with flaky paint, and some of it appears to be the dreaded...

    Vokera draindown

Prof... it's a big system (12 rads), and draining down through a rad leg will involve a lot of bowls of water, and potential carpet disaster! Bones.... dunno why I'd need to disconnect the filling loop - that's why I'm asking you guys! Can't see any other way of draining from the boiler...

    Vokera draindown

I have a Vokera Linea Max floorstanding in our basement. I need to drain down the CH system to replace TRV\\\'s, but can\\\'t find a drain cock on the boiler. The filling loop is connected at both ends, and there\\\'s a \\\"dummy\\\" unused pipe connected to the front plate next to the filling /...
