What to do with bad customer ???

You know it. I've no sympathy for the taxman, but it's you.v.him and use any means at your disposal and this is a good one- the taxmans a b'stad who can be relied upon to go get his money. I'm thinking a letter to this client recollecting any conversations about the unnecessary scaffolding...

    What's the best van ?

If I were in the market for a smaller van I'd be well tempted to go for a people carrier- my old "van" was a mitsubushi delica L400 (proper 4x4 offroad shogun-related ppl carrier) and limo tint it. Before that I had a seat inca (VW caddy in all but name) and that was a good van. bog standard...

Selling house, what certs do I need?

The nic, and possibly other schemes forbid the withholding of certificates against payment.

false meter readings or residual reading?

A voltage can be "induced" across two cables running in parallel due to the magnetic field of mains cables. This is why telecoms, TV etc must be kept away.

Dimmer BUzzing - replaced single switch with double dimmer

Whats the rating of the light bulb, and whats the range of the dimmer (will say on the back ie 40-250w) If the lamp is 60 or less I'd try a 100w if the fitting permits.

Drinking to get drunk? Whatever next?!

It's an argument that comes up frequently when the government wants to swipe some more stealth tax, cheered on by sanctimonious do-gooders drunk on their smug self-righteousness. The flipside is that people will fund their vices somehow, at the expense of the children of impoverished families...

Can switch for shower be in airing cupboard?

Points could be argued to the nth degree, in reality nobodys going to "fail" it. Millions of showers are controlled by switches outside the bathroom (just like extractors, heaters etc) and a good number of these unsightly boxes live in handily placed airing cupboards. Technically it's a...

Law regarding part p etc, and courses for basic wiring

I couldn't comment on a price as this kinda stuffs outside my scope, and evan the stuff I'd do- cable runs etc- depend on the length of run, installation method (under floor or clipped to wall etc), how long is a piece of string? As for experience you could work in partnership with a spark...

Difference and use of Part P and 17th edition.

Basic circuit checking can be done with a £20 multimeter. It won't give you certifiable readings, but in such an example of a DIYer carrying out pre-certification checks it should suffice.

Law regarding part p etc, and courses for basic wiring

Home automation is seemingly a very good game to get into, growth industry and all that. I'd do it myself- in fact I was by-and-large offered a job not so long ago by the director a fairly large concern (I was doing his cabling as well as mine on a big refurb) but I'm quite busy doing what I'm...

Drinking to get drunk? Whatever next?!

Yes, make it more expensive, that'll solve* everything! Just look at drugs like heroin, coke etc- the high price really stops people from doing it doesn't it! *"solve" being relative, but relevant as we're dealing with those who know better than us whats good for us. Heil comrades.

    The rise of the BNP.

The BNP are not the way forward. But the paths forward the 3 parties offer us are the ugly mutation* that is the euro supersate Sometimes a step backwards isn't such a bad thing. Still no way I'd vote BNP, but I'd understand the desperation of normally civilised people who'd do so...

Electric shower units, are they waterproof?

The showers are splash-proof. the front/rear sections fit together with a tongue and groove with a rubber insert in the groove. miras will have (*normally orange in my experience) plastic screw on caps on the inlet and outlet pipes to stop residual water from factory testing escaping. If...

Why Hamiltom 1000w dimmer still buzzes? using 9x50w gu10

"Switching half the lights off" is not the same as dimming, for one you still have bright spots of light. I'd try an electronic/intelligent dimmer.

fit a usa chandelier to Uk electrics

A wall plug? Is it a ceiling fixture or a table lamp? :? If the latter you can buy an inline 230-110v converter, will look like a wall wart (transformer plug) or a lead with a box in the middle like a laptop power supply.

    Plumbers & Electrician's Hourly Rates

45 1st hour if job 1 or 2 hours. otherwise 30/hour, 220 for 8 hours worked day. all +vat I'm thinking of upping my rates though. You'd probably be better off with an annoynous poll ie select 0-30, 31-40 etc, as many tradesmen are secretive and/or variable, ie I've quoted rewires...
