He said temporary. Matchsticks are good for 5 years or more, more if they are swan rated.

    Gainsborough Energy 3000X 10.5KW

Whether they actually have any parts I dont know but I've got things for old showers from the shower doctor in the past. http://showerdoc.co.uk/shower-spares/gainsborough/g-energy-3000x.html That assumes you are confident/competent to attempt to repair it.

    Picture of the week!™

Probably dumb amateur time but: Is there anything actually connected to what looks like an earth terminal top right of the metal enclosure? Where/how is the enclosure earthed?

    38W 2d light colour

Some low energy lamps seem to start off a colder, bluer colour than they end up - you might find after a few hours use the light has calmed down a bit. You can get them in "white" and "warm white" from Osram, although your definition of warm might differ from theirs.

    Ring or Spur?

Fusing the radial at 16 or 20A protects the radial and makes it allowed (regardless of how many outlets are on the radial). Its probably not "legal" for you to be doing any of this. Edit: For 2.5mm cable that is.

    Wall Socket wires too short!

I think it's called dressing. My last sparks was quite particular about deciding which way cables would enter and how they'd best fold up so that everything would fit neatly without needing excessive force. Not quite an art but it's nice to see a level of care. And yes, cutting things short is...

How likely is a faulty RCD?

All good suggestions. Sadly no new meaty TV, the old one is still going strong and I can't justify replacing it! I may be able to get hold of an RCD tester but as Chris says swapping the RCDs over would be a simple test - except its a good feeling having a properly fitted CU that I've never...

How likely is a faulty RCD?

Been trying to track down the cause of one of my RCDs tripping, I've pretty much worked out which combinations of devices can cause it to trip - big contributors washing machine, hob, microwave, underfloor heating and the server/routers combo in my understairs cupboard - I can get it into a...

How do you do your Earth?

The way I'd look at it is if the switch is removed from the back box there is no point whatever in earthing the now "random" piece of metal in the wall? Since L&N move with the switch then the CPC should too. You'd have thought it would be feasible to design a socket/switch that incorporated...

How many mr16s on one switch?

Just think yourself lucky you aren't the OP - 17*50W downlighters in a bedroom - can't see my other half coming out into that glare under any circumstances!

    Non- standard size sockets required

Probably but remember this is Yorkshire - hard to wield a bread knife accurately while cycling up a hill in a huge flat cap.

    Picture of the week!™

OK since all the professionals are either too tired or too drunk to start off ... Am I misunderstanding your diagram? Is 10->11 0.75mm on a 20A fuse and 5->6 2.5mm on a 100A?

is underfloor heating really worth it?

Had electric underfloor mats in my kitchen for quite a while now, they work perfectly - if you let them work the way they are supposed to work, in other words on all the time and regulating themselves... mine is on all year round at 18degC, spring summer and autumn it never comes on but in the...

Yup you're right, for some reason had got it into my head that the whole of the Bathroom was a special location.
