Indeed, hadn't stopped to think about that (although i was only really responding to the idea of chopping back the cpc at a switch where it has no use - not really thinking about the connection at the rose end.

Guess I'm wondering if the real onus should be on future modifications to test that what is required is present and correct (in this case an earth) rather than laying blame on the original chopper offer who possibly did nothing actually unsafe at the time. I can see the temptation - I have this...

And yet it's quite clearly there to protect the fittings/appliances not the cable itself (otherwise at the least it would be a sheath of some sort).

Is the CPC designed to protect the cable or the fitting? The reason for asking is that surely the person who cuts back the cpc where it is not needed (plastic box, plastic switch) is not in the slightest bit dangerous, all they've done is created a future modification difficulty.

Replacing Gas Hob With Induction Hob.

You are so 1970s BAS, get with the program! Get yourself some GU10 downlighters, a trendy cooker and maybe a designer polished worksurface and you'll be good to go  Just another vote for induction, I've got one and I have to say it beats gas hands down - you can cook things without...

LEDS - anyone know what developments are likely ?

    1) No. 2) Maybe. Can't dispute that the idea has potential though. Lets hope they are non-combustible though

The OLED light panels look very promising.

Lighting circuit and Low voltage lights!

Actually the makers do... 'Within national Building Regulations, plasterboard is designated a ‘material of limited combustibility’. As a result of the performance achieved when tested to BS 476: Part 6: 1989 and BS 476: Part 7: 1997' To become non combustible as specified you'd need...

    Nice safe job

You mean its possible to use Google to find strange and possibly disturbing images of things you wouldn't normally see? I'm shocked!

    Replacing a galvanised roof

A point, but I bet it would still contravene regulations somewhere along the line.

Lighting circuit and Low voltage lights!

Because the guidance you linked states that an non combustible material should be used and normal plasterboard isn't.

    Replacing a galvanised roof

Interesting isolation switch there... isolation procedure "close eyes, push cable left, push cable right, push cable left, duck"

Lighting circuit and Low voltage lights!

Will it? Normal plasterboard? Fraid not, that would be breaking the rules again.

    Nice safe job

I thought we were talknig about the kitchen not the toilet?

    Nice safe job

Thats quality workmanship that is! If the person who did that was also responsible for the gas safety of that boiler ... I think I'd be getting someone qualified in to check it over TBH.

    What have i done???

Agreed that you dont poke stuff but like me the OP is obviously an amatuer and we don't know all the good stuff! My test for dead used to be switch it on, pull the fuse, light goes out - fine start poking around. On learning a bit more I read about things like borrowed neutrals and stuff that...

    Kitchen lights advice please

The stuff that joe public like you and me would call low voltage is actually extra low voltage. My recent experience indicates they are very white (even though they are described as cool white they are way whiter than incandescent GU10s. As bright? no. For some reason even though they make a...

    What have i done???

To be fair he did say "with the fuse out". (he also said it was an earth that was tingling... whats all that about anyway?)
