    Faulty cable?

Cheers, I'm keeping an eye on it, but all seems fine at the minute. Can't say I much like the idea of crimps, getting a crimper into a backbox is probably a pig of a job :P It's situations like this I sometimes think I need some more tools, but the trouble with that is that I'd be using...

    Faulty cable?

Would like a second opinion please :) Three days ago, I did a small amount of socket moving. Basically: * Blank faceplate, where the original socket position was blocked by the old boiler. * Cables running through chocblocks in this faceplate, and down to a surface mounted backbox. I...

    Painting behind gas cooker

OK, so looking for a little advice about what I can & can't do here. I have a pretty old Parkison Cowan Acclaim gas cooker (C. 30 years)- I want to repaint in the kitchen, which will involve doing down the side and behind the cooker. Looking behind the cooker, I have a copper pipe going...

Brushed Chrome fittings- Reccomend a brand?

OK, so I'm looking for some brushed chrome (or steel) sockets and associated fittings. I'm after black inserts with decorative metal-effect switches. The last few sockets I've fitted around the house have been an assortment of brands (MK- Decent, didn't like the small switch, Screwfix Cheap-...

    Surface mounted cabling, regs please

Quite possibly true :) The trunking is a reasonable size, I'd have to look into the options there TBQH. From what I can find, the separation requirement comes from EN 50174-1, and interestingly enough, I found this little titbidt: ( http://home2.btconnect.com/KnowHow-Networks/spec_50174.htm...

    Surface mounted cabling, regs please

Lol, yeah :) 4 double sockets on this circut, covering 32m² total. Covers the front and back downstairs rooms of a standard Victorian terraced house. Shoddy MSPaint diagram of the circuit in question, if you assume the dashed line is the stairs: Complete list of the circuits for what...

    Surface mounted cabling, regs please

OK, so small regulations question please gents. Getting a slightly conflicting answer to this from a search- I want to install another socket in my lounge. The wiring in this house is typical 70s, and the two other sockets in the room are on opposite walls, but I have a socket on the same...

    Ferroli boiler

Everyone under the sun here will condemn them :P As an honest answer from someone who had one installed (Probably a mistake, but it was family :s )- Very noisy on slow hot water flow. Need a degree to program the inbuilt clock. Other than that it's been running for 18 months. No leaks...

Mysterious knocking noise from roof...except when tv is on!

Communal TV amplifier is up the creak IMHO. Probably an electrical issue within it somewhere which vanishes when a load is put on (Your TV). Try it with a neighbours, and if this is the problem, the knocking ought to vanish.

    Timber delivered...

Not one I can get timber like this in :P I've got several mates with Corsas (Haven't a monkeys, especially with what some of them think of their cars), and the parents are just over 400 miles away, so no help there. Heat isn't really a problem, nice and warm up there at the minute :lol...

    Timber delivered...

That, and some stud walls to stop things rolling off the boarded section :) I'm actually going to be putting a model railway up there in the end of things, so I'm trying to ensure my floor is supported enough! Insulation will definitely be being compressed in some places, where I've added...

    Timber delivered...

I'm in Norwich :) Getting someone to deliver without paying through the nose for a the priveledge on a small order is the issue. Tannelising isn't 100% important, this is going in the loft, I'm just trying to cover all my bases if it gets a little damp up there.

    Timber delivered...

OK, so looking to pick a couple of brains please. I need ~20m of 2"x2" tannelised (Or equivilant, some people have 47mmx47mm etc.) at the moment, and there's no real way I can transport something of this size. Trying to chase local timber merchants for delivery etc, and the best figure I...

    Security Lighting

I would point out those are US regulations ;) I'm not sure there is a specific UK regulation, unless you're in a conservation area, national park etc- I can't see anything specific, other than vauge mentions of lux levels.

    Siemens RDJ10RF- Failed?

10 months old or there abouts, so batteries would be about the same age. Far as I can tell the room unit is working just fine, but the wall unit isn't. Relay isn't doing anything at all even with the override button, and I've got no lights either to indicate power or a loss of connection...

    Siemens RDJ10RF- Failed?

Unit is about 10 months, old, & I've got no lights at all on the reciever. Multimeter tells me there's 240v on the inputs, but as I'm using the volt free contacts I can't tell anything else. (At the mo it thinks there's a connection between the two, but I'm reasonably certain it's reading...

    No BT Master socket

It's an install by Sky to be specific, although they use BT Openreach to do the work, and they're charging £10 ( ) No idea what they're likely to try and do or not do, hence why I'm seeking a little advice in the first instance. Obviously, assuming those are the original BT wires...

Solid Fuel AGA to heat water?

My family lived with a two-oven coal Aga for nearly 15 years. Assuming it was topped up morning and night, you got about enough hot water for 2 1/2 baths before it starting running out. Generally worked quite reasonably, although you want to make sure you don't get one with a worn riddle...
