    do it live? water will go everywehere though won't it???! his stopcock is on copper. as mentioned before, leaving the old one there and adding a new one is probs a better idea. it is def open, just won't close!!

    if you had a blockage in the vent pipe you're cylinder could start to implode!!

    My friend is trying to change his ball valve in the loft cistern. But he says his stopcock will not shut off. He says he has turned it by hand clockwise and anticlockwise but no joy water is still running. why is this - could it be seized up after years of non operating? I advised him...

    are the taps high pressure taps ? if they are this is the problem .... quite common nowadays. always check the instructions/box before you buy. easy mistake to make though!

    so the manual lever on the motorised valve is to drain the whole system not just the CH water. I was told to always wrap the rad threads with PTFE tape to make a more watertight fit? so just the compression ring and nut will be OK?

    looking at this response - you would need to turn your GATE VALVES off , not main stopcock. The cold feed gate valve and the cold water to the bathroom gate valve. Also make sure you leel the bath out and support it with the fixings provided.
