are the taps high pressure taps ? if they are this is the problem .... quite common nowadays. always check the instructions/box before you buy. easy mistake to make though!

so the manual lever on the motorised valve is to drain the whole system not just the CH water. I was told to always wrap the rad threads with PTFE tape to make a more watertight fit? so just the compression ring and nut will be OK?

on my hot water cylinder it seems like the flow goes into the lower tapping and the return comes out at the higher tapping! it has a pump just after the cold feed (which tees on to the flow from the air separator), the pump is just below this and before the 3 port vale. the cylinder return...

looking at this response - you would need to turn your GATE VALVES off , not main stopcock. The cold feed gate valve and the cold water to the bathroom gate valve. Also make sure you leel the bath out and support it with the fixings provided.
