    Help !! Tile trim problem

Surely if you cut each trim at 45º on two planes - looking down on each of the surfaces it connects - you ought to be OK? I really don't fancy the job though, or getting the measurements right. And I'd be surprised if you end up with a really tidy job. I'd be inclined to mitre two of them...

    hardboard which way up?

On my aged, uneven and fairly gappy bathroom floor the tiler said no need to put down hardboard - he was using flexible tile fixative - so I didn't bother. Seems to have been OK - that was two years ago.

I hate my ceiling - Help

Distemper must be decades ago. No idea why it's dusty stuff? But a good coat of PVA should stick anything non-greasy together so's paint will stick OK. My question on kind of paint not answered yet?

I Want to Buy Some Tools.

My favourite purchase was a Makita, bought after chatting with a pro. Came with two batteries and a torch. Years and much abuse later both are still going strong. At non-pro prices haven't found any kind of saw yet that cuts straighter than a handsaw. If I ever decide to build another...

I hate my ceiling - Help

Sounds fascinating. It's strange that paint won't hang on to the ceiling when the paper did? Is it greasy, or dusty? What kind of paint did you use?

    Baxi Barcelona has some use!!!

Well I shouldn't really say this, and I am clutching at various pieces of wood - but mine is six years old and working well. Not suggesting there isn't a problem with them, but they are not ALL bad.

Too hot too cold electric shower

You did mention that you had recently had CH installed. Did the peculiar behaviour of the shower start then or was it OK for a while then went odd?

    Satellite/VCR/DVD Recorder/TV Connection

The thing that totally blew my mind when I connected my cable box, dvd, vcr and tv with scarts - was that they all seemed to know instinctively what it was I wanted to do! The TV switches by itself to whichever of it's scart inputs I have turned on most recently.... and so on. It seems a bit...

    wiring plug

If this was mine I'd look for something on the motor that suggested it was meant to be connected to the mains. If I could find nothing I'd probably dump it. If it seemed like a mains motor, or if not clear and I fancied the experiment, I would put a plug on it, take a long extension lead...

    Mysterious piping

Under my floors (1896) I found two kinds of strange metal tubing. There was a lot of black non-lead stuff that was electrical conduit that held old cotton&rubber wires - still being used until I rewired in 1987. And there was a lot of lead-wrapped stuff that was connected to an old wet-cell...

    Shower pump or power shower?

AdamW - couldn't agree more. Was persuaded to put in a separate shower pump a few years ago. Total success. I reckon there's something about that total saturation thing that clears your head as well as getting you clean. Can't hear a thing in the shower, apart from the water, but it's...

Realy annoying intermittent central heating problem.

So all your bits work, but not all the time. Have you checked all connections - physically and against the instructions?

    Best Water Purifier

"What nasties?" I was persuaded, much against rational judgement, that we should buy one of those filter jug thingies. Now I know that the water from the jug taste much better than the stuff from the tap. I'm not convinced tap water is going to kill me, but on taste grounds I don't drink it...

    Outside taps

... or maybe as you've only used them recently the problems haven't happened yet. Personally if I was employing a plumber for this kind of job I'd expect to see the job done right, not just a DIY bodge.

    Plumbing for Machine Outside

On the point of taking longer, being less efficient: my son who has just bought a new machine tells me they are all coldfill only - or maybe he said the most efficient ones are coldfill only. I thought that a bit odd. Any comments?

    pump wont stop running

Does that mean that your hot water is getting a lot hotter than it did before? Could be a problem with the thermostat on the hot water cylinder. Does the pump stop if you turn the thermostat way down?
