    Air in pumped shower system

Just for clarification. You really mean no water at all for that time, then the pump comes on and water comes out? Or does water come out at normal pressure until the pump comes on. What happens if there is no power to the pump? Does the water still get to the shower - but only at normal pressure?

    Weird central heating system- help

Not at all convinced - but then I'm no expert. Assuming you are using the numbers I used in my post - which of course is a wild assumption: (1) and (2) almost certainly don't connect to radiators anywhere. (3) and (4) might well connect to the feed and return for the radiators. Although that...

    Weird central heating system- help

Always intrigued by a puzzle, so here's a set of suggestions. The hot water feed from the tank going to the bathroom and up to the loft and onwards to other hot taps? The cold water feed TO the hot water tank from the cold water storage tank in the loft? Connection to the CH boiler, either...

    shower woe

When this happened to me the problem was a fault in the N side of the DP switch. Enough connection to light the neon only until load applied by shower and still live getting through to the shower. Odd that this has gone wrong if you only changed the string, but sounds like either loose...

Nailing picture hooks into plastered wall

So you have to shorten the string or move the picture frame fixing. My hanging organiser insists on not being able to see the string/wire or the wall fixing. Me? I just hate hammering nails into freshly cleaned, filled and painted walls.

Rome airport closed. easyJet customers diverted

Would be OK if that's where they were diverted to. But the distance quoted suggests different. No way is Fiumicino as much as 130 miles from Ciampino. I guess, AdamW, you have a prime seat from your residence in the City. Taking in lodgers?

    The Pope

Sorry Freddie - I was not intending to gloss over in any way the kind of abuse you are referring to - or any other abuse of situations of power. I am too close to that. But I was trying to make the point that this is not a characteristic of Christianity or of faiths in general, but a...

    computer points

b-a-s: I'm with you here. Unless Mackeral is experienced in network cabling, better not to get involved unless the job is ONLY removal - which it seems it isn't - and even then there's a risk. The shop needs to know better - they'll need to involve whoever supports the network and PCs in the...

    Gloss or emulsion first

Isn't this curious! For all the same reasons Thermo gives, I do it the other way round. Do the gloss quickly and easily, then cut in with the emulsion ONCE and roll the walls - or brush if I'm feeling whimsical.

    The Pope

It is easy to point out where human weakness has failed to live up to the ideal. But it is grossly insulting to Christianity, and indeed to faiths in general, to blame all the evils and inequities of the world on religion. It is also sublimely ignorant.

    Gloss or emulsion first

Thanks jbonding - I feel less lonely now. Looking round the room I can see there's no way to make any kind of decent job of picture rails or skirting after painting walls. The edges of the mouldings are way too small to get any kind of a decent edge. But cutting in with the emulsion at the...

    Gloss or emulsion first

Is this a universal truth or is there anyone else out there who does it the other way round (like me) - picture rails, skirting, door and window frames first - then ceiling and walls - then doors and opening windows? I wonder why I do it that way?

    where to start to tile

I know it's boring, but I would start by talking to a tiler.

    How long before tiling?

Ah. So the guys who skimmed my bathroom on Tuesday and tiled on Wednesday were a bit quick then? That was a couple of years ago and nothing has fallen off - yet.

The forum states that all times ARE GMT. I think perhaps you mean to ask if the forum clock should be adjusted to BST.

Under Cupboard Lights - PLEASE HELP!

A little off your point, but 20W halogens are hot. Don't keep your butter dish on the shelf above the lights else the butter melts: similar problems with honey, chocolate etc. 10W are much better and plenty bright enough.

    Skirting Boards and Plastering

Best to ask the plasterer who's going to do the job! I've avoided a lot of what I thought were essential bits of preparation by asking the plasterer what needed doing first.

    wallpaper help needed#!!!

Understand your concern about the price of plastering. But think of the time and money you'll spend fixing the flakey plaster (perhaps not very well), and the time and money papering. At least you'll be able to paint a well-plastered wall - cheaper than paper - and you'll know the job's done...
