    Kitchen Wall Cabinets Pelmet position

Not sure I understand where the 130 deg. comes in. If the bottom is completely flat you can place them anywhere, although as I said I think they look better in line with the front of the door, providing that leaves you enough to screw through to fix them to the cabinets. If you have more...

    Kitchen Wall Cabinets Pelmet position

I personally think it looks better lined up to the front of the door, thats the way I normally place them, they are made with that in mind ( in most cases). With the ends, if you look at the end of the cornice there is more than lighly a step on the bottom, I usually line the lower part up...

Joining 90 degrees solid wood kitchen worktop

If you have a jig & router and know how to use them, I would go for that, if for no other reason, that is the easiest way. Having said that, if you feel you are able to cut with the accuratley needed at 45deg this way can look better as the strips SOMETIMES line up, which some people prefer...

Where/how can I learn to use a router?

Practice is the key to routing. There are courses to learn routing, they last 2 days and are expensive. I would suggest a good book, then you can pick what you want to know and practice that bit. I got bitten by the routing bug 25 years ago and now have 6 of them. There is a massive...

    Installing a sink waste

Adam, I get the kit from a local plumbing shop, I have not seen them in Wickes. That's why I gave you the phone number, I thought you would have to phone them to get details of where you could get one locally.

    Installing a sink waste

If you have no luck from anybody's suggestions, try a "basin waste seal 3 part set", it does not need any sealant costs about £3.00 and really does work. I've done about 6 with these and works first time every time. Made by Dell Factor ltd, 01902 305111

    mortice drills?

The chisel fits into a holder and is held in place with a screw going through the side, not sure what holds the holder to the machine. It took me ages to get it set up and running, I just couldn't get the chisel at 90 deg. to the fence. I have made several more gates since the two I...

    mortice drills?

A normal drill stand will not be any good, it's not robust enough. Record used to make a great cast iron drill stand, capable of hold a powerful drill, which is what is needed for mortices, I do not know if it is still available, it was only £39.99. Screwfix do a pillar drill for £49.99...

    Shelving and biscuit joints

The joints done with a biscuit joiner are stronger than dowel or cam joints. There is a greater glueing area than dowels and when used with a water based glue the biscuits swell up to form a tight permenant joint. I use a clamp & guide to cut the grooves away from the ends but you can...

    Worktop upstand splash back thingy

Yes, just a decent size bead about 15mm inside the edges. After re- reading your post, I realised you are using the small one, so no sockets to cut around. You could put a bead along the bottom or one on the front of the joint after it has dried to the wall.

Clear silicon, very easy to put up. The worst bit is cutting out for sockets etc.

    wallpaper cutting conundrum

I picked up a tip from a decorator some years ago. Use a 3" paper scraper and a snape off blade stanley knife. Push the scraper tight into the corner at a angle, then cut the paper above, just keep repositioning the scraper along the full width, it really is a very quick method and because...

    Hob Installation

Cannot see any real reason why this can't be done. If the hob is going into a run, it might look a bit odd placed near the end. If you have to cut 15mm. to clear the bottom of the hob, you should take a bit more out, I know gas hobs get pretty hot, not too sure about electric.

    hob unit

You can remove the center rail and replace it with a bracket which is fixed to the back of the cabinet. The bracket is made for this purpose and fixes to the rear chipboard rail. The guide rails attach to this with self tappers, the normal fixing at the front is still used. You could try a...

    Routing

Come on Masona, were's the fun in buying what you want off the shelf. Think what you are missing, the expense of a cutter you may never use again, the frustration of getting it to do what you want, the piles of dust everywhere, the piles of test pieces and the biggest mystery of all, what...
