    Routing

Try www.tooled-up.com. Scroll down, on the left hand side near the bottom click on Trend, then on routing accessories. I have never done what you want to do but I think you might need two seperate bits. I have used a bearing guided rebate bits and they are quite easy to get on with...

    Useful supplier

I can't recall seeing this company elsewhere on this site www.woodfit.com They have got some very useful stuff, mostly for kitchens, bedrooms etc. It's well worth requesting a catalogue, as it gives fixing pictures and dims. which is very useful for planning projects

    packing old job

You are very unlikely to go from nothing to a full book overnight, also 13 years is a long time to be away from something. You are in a excellent position with your shiftwork to see whats what and get back into it. I live in Essex and tried to get a p&d for what I reckoned was a weeks...

    Problem with T&G door facing

I would not use glue and leave a small movement gap on t&g. If you only had 2mm movement on 8 boards, gap would not have to be that big. Also try one screw near the middle of each board and give the hole a bit of clearance

    sealing laminated splashback

I have not used them without edging on two sides, so have not had this problem. All I can think of is a piece of plain beading painted before you glue it in position. Sorry I can't be more helpful, it will be interesting to see if anyone comes up with a better solution.

Joining two real beech breakfast bar worktops

Masona.. These days I do not see many tiles on worktops, if I do it is usually on the tops I am taking out. In most cases the lady of the house complains about how difficult they were to keep clean which does seem to be a problem if grout is used. I was in MFI the other day and noticed that...

Joining two real beech breakfast bar worktops

The easiest way is to use bolts, as used in mitre joints. As your builder was considering using metal strips it's doubtful he would have the right tools to route these in. Another way is strap clamps, as used on flooring but they then require biscuits. Tell him you do not want a metal...

    Clients house key problem.

I would agree with oilman here. Also things can get lost or misplaced even when the householder is there. In the whole scheme of things, in working for the public, holding their keys(which I do on over half my jobs) is the least of my worries.

Round worktop cutout for an inset bowl sink/drainer

I have seen them under corian but never wood, hope this is not going to be yet another new trend to contend with. As has already been suggested a router & circle cutting guide is your only chance of getting a decent finish, you will also need to round over the top edge to get rid of any...

want a price guide / guestimate?

I have the habit of taking a large flask with me, I can't remember what started it but in every case the householder gets upset with me because I brought my own drink and insists that I leave it and have a proper cuppa. David & Julie.. grottiest place I ever worked in, I will not go into...

    fitting a kitchen ( try to )

Never thought of corner units, that rules out making new corner posts. Wickes normally supply self stick colour matched edging tape that you put around the front edges of the units, fill in the front of the gaps between the 1000 unit and the two corner units with a piece of strip wood and...

    fitting a kitchen ( try to )

It would be useful to see your layout plan, I can't work out your 285 dim. If this includes 2 corner posts, the easiest thing to do is leave them out and make new ones with one of the legs 5mm wider. You will need a spare end panel for this. It may also pay you to put the units into their...

    Kitchen worktop cutting/fitting costs

If it's worrying you that much ask them before they start the work, would they replace in the event of a muck up. If the worse happens do not pay any money until THEY have replaced & fitted the tops. Most of the kitchen companies I have done work for, would expect the fitter to pay for...

    Plumbers & Electricians

Has anyone noticed how nicely the plumbers play, they always seem to agree with one another. The electrians on the other hand, will just not play nicely, always disagreeing & bickering. I had the same problem a while back with 2 tom cats, the vet said only way to stop this was to get them...

    Laying Vinyl Floor Tiles

My own experiences, don't know if there is a better way but this worked for me I/ You can get a cleaner from carpet shops that removes any sealer that might have been used and any greece etc. I staggered my new tiles, do not know if it was needed but seemed to make sense to do it. 2/...

    Query on laser levels

Human nature I suppose, always fill up available space. I bought a house few years back, with 2 large built in workshops, the biggest being 55 x 25 seemed like a ballroom to start, when I moved 6 years later couldn't move, jampacked with stuff, most of which was never going to be used...

    Smoking

All smoking does is satisfy a craving, which makes you feel better for a short time. In my own case the only other benefit has been my grandchildren, who have witnessed me coughing, have said they will never smoke.
