Look at your first pic. The valve to the left of the gas has water drip hanging from it. I wold say you have a leak somewhere inside the boiler, as above, heat exchange, pump, anything really.

When the cold ater is being used up, it refills itself. The tank is situated above a bedroom, and as such, when the water falls from the ball vavle into the water tank, it sounds like someone is taking a pee. Is there a way to dampen this noise. Some sort of silencing kit, or a hose etc...

as you say possibly a knackered relay dropping out, or the HT lead is loose/damaged and its failing to rectify hence cutting out!

from memory this boiler has two knobs next to the white key, one a grey white one, and one a black one. Is it not the balck one you turn once you have engaged the key?

Are you any good with a multimeter?? First would be to check for continuity and open line while amking and breaking the switch (or 240v - 0v when making and breaking the switch) THis will then rule out the RS.
