    Interest or lack of

Just moved house. Other half is with Abbey. Despite handing in change of address forms over the day we moved her statements etc are still being sent to her parents house (10 weeks later). People who sold the house also bank with Abbey and guess what? We've had 2 of their statements, a...

    debris in mains suppy

What sort of debris? Is it hard/soft, fibre or plastic? If it is like tea leaves - smudge it between your fingers. If it smudges brown or grey then it is likely to be lead, in which case I recommend you contact your local Water Co and enquire about the level of lead in your drinking water...

Questions on new supply pipe (from water co's stop tap into

I think your budget may be a little naive. Unless you are taking it to the correct depth then the ducting and insulation will push the costs up considerably. As will the use of an insuduct or other similar product. The conventional method of entering the building is the hardest work but...

Questions on new supply pipe (from water co's stop tap into

What material pipe are you replacing? Your local Water Co may have a scheme to provide a new connection free if it is a non-preferred material (lead/galvanised steel). Have you called your local Water Co's Water Regulations section for advice? They may be able to give on-site advice better...

    Flood defences

I will probably be down your neck of the woods with a valve key and stand pipe soon. We've been asked to assist with the restoration of supplies as part of a mutual aid agreement. Going to take some serious flushing out and sampling before they sign the water off as safe to drink...

    Installing outside tap - Help!

So the internal bore of the fitting will have no negative effect on flowrate then? Pressure and flow are two entirely seperate things. 20l/min at 1 bar will get you a hell of a lot wetter than 1 l/min at 20bar...

    Flood defences

The charges you pay for your water bil lare for the carriage and treatment of effluent and surface water from your property - not for flood defences. the majority of problems are caused by highway surface water drains (local councils responsibility)

    stopcock in street

I'm assuming that with it being a newish property it is on a meter? Be very careful if it is an "Atplas" meter box (round lid, semi-oval chamber, long black removable tee handle alongside the meter). These need only be finger tight, if you screw them down too much they will snap - leaving you...

    Poetic spam.

I've seen some really strange posts that are obviously cut and pasted by non-english speaking spammers but the current one in the P&CH forum is one of the most beautifully worded ever: Goodness, a hummingbird is far less truculent than an inarticulate ocelot. (almost as articulate as...

    Flood defences

One thing that people fail to realise is that before privatisation, Water Authorities were running massively overspent which was then subsidised by government coffers. I do think the focus on profit for shareholders is a problem with any industry/business where provision of a service can...

    Installing outside tap - Help!

Yes, taps with a built in Double check are only for making an existing (pre-'99) installation compliant. For a new installation as you are doing, the double check must be seperate from the tap and inside the building.
