    CH pump overrun

It is better to dump the heat into the hot water cylinder where it is useful. It is a very simple circuit to add to the system but as stated above most installers will not understand it. As said far simpler to add a bypass valve after the pump where it is meant to be. Probably not worth even...

    SHARED DRAINS BLOCKAGE

As far as I can see, all drains become the responsibility of the Water Co when they are shared between two or more different properties. That is totally without any relevance to who owns the land they pass over. Of course we all know that many organisations like to try to minimise their...

Will an A2A heat pump save me money in winter?

I am amused that my simple rule of thumb was within 2% percent of your consumption test for heating the room for a standard winter's day!

Ravenheat 82e combi boiler fuse keeps blowing

If it is the pump then they are generic parts and available without needing a specific pump supplied through the original boiler maker ( at an inflated price ). A boiler engineer should be able to advise and source a generic pump.

Cost to repair cracked soil pipe?

Yes just shows how some people will inflate a quote way beyond what is a reasonable figure. The guys who did it still earned a reasonable payment in most people's opinion. Could be the expensive quote were overloaded with work and did not want to do any more unless it was very well paid. Its...

Will an A2A heat pump save me money in winter?

My rule of thumb would make it need about 5.3 kW of heat.

    Pushfit

A lady I know had her house repluimbed by a builder. After a few weeks there was water pouring through the light fitting in the kitchen. I had to knock through plasterboard to access the leaking joint. I needed to tell her that he had not used any pipe inserts and left her to decide how to...

    Gurgling Sounds From My Boiler

Gurgling within s condensing boiler often means that the condensate is not completely draining away properly. Sometimes as a result of insufficient fall ( slope ) close to the boiler.

    15mm nut and olive

Probably not. You could probably put two turns of PTFE tape around the olive to give you added peace of mind.

Cost to repair cracked soil pipe?

Although it is not my preferred type of work, I needed to replace a soil stack several years ago. I bought all the bits needed and started on the job. I have to say that it took about three times longer than expected even though I had all the tools and had bought exactly the parts required...

How to find where cable fault is?

BT had several types. The most common was a fairly short range yellow one which could detect a tone applied at the exchange within a cabinet at a distance of about 100mm. But the nice one was one that could be held up in the air and detect a tone applied to overhead drop wires several meters...

How to find where cable fault is?

Oddly nobody suggested using a CAT. I think they can detect a live cable at a fair distance. I think that I have one somewhere so could have found it and checked it. I think it uses large dry batteries so I have not been very enthusiastic about it. But as they sell for a high price I really...

Underfloor Heating: one zone not heating

Looks like the heads are held on by the screwed clamps underneath. With two broken and replaced with zip ties. Jubilee clips would probably be a suitable solution if you needed to remove those.

Issue with Radiator connected with 8mm Piping to existing 15mm Copper

My simple rule of thumb of 100 W per sq meter would make that rad output about right IF the flow temperature was about 82C or at its design temperature. So are there any undisclosed heat losses? Leaking windows? Vents to the outside?

Issue with Radiator connected with 8mm Piping to existing 15mm Copper

You cannot properly balance rads without any way to measure the flow and return temperatures. But I can because I traim myself to measure temps by touching them.

How to find where cable fault is?

Solved! The owner found someone to come and look at it. They discovered that there was an isolator switch a couple of meters before the shower unit and conveniently hidden behind the head board of the bed. That had been turned off by the tenant. That greatly surprised me bacause the tenant...

How to find where cable fault is?

Sorry, yes the 6mm will presumably be stranded which would be very unlikely to fail by breaking. However over the 10m of concealed cable run there could well be some kind of connector or joint which has failed.

How to find where cable fault is?

I have access to the terminations and they are both fine. Both solid 6mm conductors. But I do not know if there are any joints hidden somewhere.

There could well be but totally out of sight under floors or behind walls.
