Route to becoming Domestic Installer with NIC EIC

Out of the qualifications Able Skills provide the only one you need to enrol on a DI scheme is the EAL VRQ one, you will need to gain a 2382 (1th Edition) qualification within the first 12 months of joining a scheme however. Passing the VRQ is simple enough if you've got a fair background in...

A 60a fuse might still be ok but that depends on the maximum demand of the installation, which is subject to many factors. In my (limited) experience your supplier will upgrade the fuse & meter tails (if neccessary) FOC, contact them and enquire about it, if it's free go for it all, if it's at...

    Ring/radial

Training companies are partly to blame for the confusion in the actual existence of 'Part P' courses, they obviously use that title as it gets more hits than the proper qualification gained at the end of those courses ie. VRQ or DISQ. There is no such thing as a Part P course, doing Part P or...

    Garage CU

If you've recently passed the C&G 2382 & a form of DISQ you should know that if you are to do this work it's notifiable to the LABC. If you're not a member of a competent persons scheme and as (no offence) you don't seem confident in doing it, it may be worth your while employing a registered...

Replacing flex on Class 1 fitting with no CPC?

I feel as though I've done it correctly by documenting it & leaving it up to them but just wanted to be be sure. What do you mean by risk notice?

Replacing flex on Class 1 fitting with no CPC?

Someone asked me to repair a hall light fitting which suffered impact damage when attacked by a sofa being delivered which burnt out the scantily rubber clad aluminium drops to the lampholder. It's a lovely old brass contraption but without a CPC on the circuit. I replaced what was left of the...

    13.7kw cooker on 2.5mm T&E

13.7kw - 60a - 25a after diversity - 1.8% VD I haven't seen the manual as yet. The existing cooker is gas, the new one is wholly electric. Yes he bought the cooker. He's apparently been told that the cable is ok...

    13.7kw cooker on 2.5mm T&E

We both agreed the 16a would need changing so didn't really bother mentioning that. Volt drop was included in my calcs - 9m or so. Fair point, if I do do it I'll put 10mm in. It's RCD protected already and will be notified if I do it. Would you use the 2.5mm?:)

    13.7kw cooker on 2.5mm T&E

Someone has asked me to connect up their shiny new cooker to the existing point which is fed by 2.5mm T&E, about 8-9m of it clipped direct, & on a B16a mcb. I've agreed to do it only if he lets me replace the whole run (which will include ripping up floorboards etc.) with 6mm & a 32a mcb as by...
